Translation
The sages said: O sinless one, by you indeed the Purāṇas along with the Itihāsas have been explained and also studied, as well as whatever dharma-śāstras there are.
ऋषियों ने कहा: हे निष्पाप! आपने निश्चय ही इतिहासों सहित पुराणों का तथा जितने धर्मशास्त्र हैं, उनका भी अध्ययन किया है और उनका निरूपण भी किया है।

bhāvārtha-dīpikā
vividiṣitān arthān praṣṭuṁ sūtasya sarva-śātra-jñānātiśayam āhuḥ—tvayeti tribhiḥ ślokaiḥ |
To ask about the matters they wished to know, they speak of Sūta's exceptional knowledge of all the scriptures in the three verses beginning with 'by you.'
जिन बातों को वे जानना चाहते थे, उन्हें पूछने के लिए वे 'त्वया' आदि तीन श्लोकों में सूतजी के सर्वशास्त्र-ज्ञान की विशेषता कहते हैं।
itihāso mahābhāratādis tat-sahitāni |
On itihāsaḥ — The Mahābhārata and the like; the Purāṇas are stated together with these.

By itihāsa is meant the Mahābhārata and the like, and the Purāṇas are mentioned together with these. These were not only studied but also recited and explained. And whatever dharma-śāstras there are, those too are included.
यहाँ इतिहास से महाभारत आदि समझना चाहिए, और पुराण उन्हीं सहित कहे गये हैं। वे केवल पढ़े ही नहीं गये, बल्कि उनका कथन और व्याख्यान भी किया गया है। और जितने धर्मशास्त्र हैं, वे भी इसी में सम्मिलित हैं।
