vrajabhuvi guru-garvāt kurvatas tīvra-vṛṣṭiṁ
vraja-bhuviupon the land of Vraja locative — where the downpour fell (vraja 'the cowherd country' + bhū 'land')व्रज की भूमि पर — जहाँ वह घोर वर्षा गिरी
guru-garvātout of overweening pride ablative of cause — why he sent it (guru 'great, heavy' + garva 'pride')अत्यन्त अभिमान के कारण — इसी से उसने वह वृष्टि भेजी (गुरु = भारी, प्रबल; गर्व = अहंकार)
kurvataḥof me, even as I was making [it] genitive present participle of √kṛ, agreeing with mama in L2 — this is the task he had set in motionकरते हुए (मेरे) — यह √कृ का षष्ठी-वर्तमान-कृदन्त है, आगे L2 के 'मम' से जुड़ता है; यही वह कार्य जो मैंने आरम्भ किया था
vraja-bhuvi — upon the land of Vraja; guru-garvāt — out of overweening pride; tīvra-vṛṣṭiṁ kurvataḥ — of me, even as I was pouring down a fierce rain.
The speaker had begun pouring a fierce rain on the land of Vraja, and out of sheer pride. The one who sent that deluge on Vraja is Indra. The task he set in motion was the drowning of the cowherds' country.
An udāharaṇa of parivartaka, the sandhy-aṅga defined in this unit's lead-in: 'prārabdha-kāryād anyasya karaṇaṁ parivartakaḥ' — parivartaka is the carrying out of a task other than the one begun. Indra begins the task of destroying Vraja with rain; in the very act it turns to fear and surrender, and he ends by doing the exact opposite of what he set out to do. This verse is quoted (ref 254) to show that reversal.

hṛdi bhavad-anubhāvād adya-bhītir mamāsīt |
hṛdiin my heart locative — where the fear roseहृदय में — जहाँ वह भय उठा
bhavad-anubhāvātbecause of your overpowering might ablative of cause (bhavat 'your honour' + anubhāva 'might, influence')आपके प्रभाव के कारण — इसी से (भवत् = आप, श्रीमान्; अनुभाव = सामर्थ्य, अभिभूत कर देने वाली शक्ति)
adyathis very dayआज
bhītiḥdread arose nominative — the subject that came to beभय — जो उत्पन्न हुआ, वह कर्ता
āsītcame to be imperfect of √asहो गया — √अस् का लङ् (भूतकाल)
adya — this very day; bhavad-anubhāvāt — because of your might; mama hṛdi — in my heart; bhītiḥ āsīt — dread arose.
But this very day dread rose in my heart — dread born of your overpowering might. Even as I was raining down destruction, your power turned my resolve to fear. The deed I had begun reversed itself inside me.
anubhāva here is the ordinary word for 'might, overpowering influence' — not the rasa-technical anubhāva (an outward sign of emotion). The genitive kurvataḥ of L1 hangs on this mama: 'of me, as I was making the rain, fear became mine' — the reversal is caught in a single breath.

dogdhu-kāmaḥthough minded to milk [your due] from me nominative agreeing with tvam (dogdhum, infinitive 'to milk' + kāma 'wishing')दोहने की इच्छा रखने वाले — 'आप' का विशेषण (दोग्धुम् = दोहने के लिए, इच्छार्थक कृदन्त; काम = चाहने वाला)

tvam kila kṛpāluḥ asi — you are, as all know, full of mercy; kāmaṁ dogdhu-kāmaḥ api — even though you were minded to milk [your due] at will.
You are, as all the world knows, full of mercy. Even though you could have milked me dry at will — squeezed out your full retribution — you held back. Your very nature is kindness.
A śleṣa on dogdhu-kāma turns on Gokulendra being a cowherd: literally 'wishing to milk', the herdsman's own delight, and figuratively 'wishing to exact, to squeeze out [what is owed]'. The plea: the cowherd who loves to milk had every right to milk punishment from the offender, yet chose mercy.

So now, O Gokulendra, lord of Gokula, be gracious to me — I who have thrown myself on your shelter. The one who came to destroy Vraja ends by begging its lord for mercy. The task begun is wholly overturned — this is parivartaka, doing the very opposite of what was set out.

Out of overweening pride I had begun to pour a fierce rain upon the land of Vraja — and this very day, even as I made it fall, dread rose in my heart before your overpowering might. You are, as all the world knows, full of mercy: though you could freely have milked from me my full due, you held back. Therefore, O Gokulendra, lord of Gokula, here and now be gracious to me, who have thrown myself upon your shelter.
