Now Rūpa defines the first limb of the ārabhaṭī-vṛtti. saṅkṣipti, he says, is the fashioning of a condensed plot — the poet packs the subject-matter (vastu) tightly, telling a great deal in little space. And this condensed handling is itself greatly wonderful, striking the audience with the marvelous.
संक्षिप्ति का लक्षण यह कहा गया है। थोड़े में समेटी हुई कथावस्तु का जो शीघ्र विस्तार होता है, वही संक्षिप्ति है। और वह महान् अद्भुत रस से युक्त होती है।
saṅkṣipti ('condensation, abridgment') is one of the four limbs (aṅga) of the ārabhaṭī-vṛtti, the bold, energetic mode of dramatic action; it was named in the previous kārikā (247) alongside avapātana, with vastūtthāpana and sampheṭa completing the four in Bharata's list (see the lead-in). Here Rūpa gives its lakṣaṇa: the swift, compressed unfolding of plot that carries a note of wonder (adbhuta).
संक्षिप्ति ('समेटना, संक्षेप') आरभटी-वृत्ति के चार अंगों में से एक है। आरभटी वह वृत्ति है जिसमें नाट्य का व्यापार तेजस्वी और उद्धत रूप में चलता है। पिछली कारिका (२४७) में अवपातन के साथ इसका नाम आया था, और भरत की गणना में वस्तूत्थापन तथा सम्फेट मिलाकर चारों पूरे होते हैं। यहाँ रूप गोस्वामी इसका लक्षण देते हैं — कथानक का वह शीघ्र, समेटा हुआ विस्तार जो अद्भुत रस की झलक लिए रहता है।
