vidhinā hate śiśu-kule tādṛśam aparaṁ haris tathā vyatanot |
vidhināby Vidhi — Brahmā, the creator — as the one who did it instrumental of agent with the passive hate; vidhi is a standard lexical name of Brahmā, the ordainerब्रह्मा (विधि अर्थात् विधाता) के द्वारा
hate śiśu-kuleonce the whole flock of little ones had been struck away, spirited off locative absolute setting the 'once…' clause; hata (removed, struck down) + śiśu-kula (the herd of infants — the cowherd boys and their calves)जब शिशुओं का समूह (ग्वालबाल और बछड़े) हर लिया गया
hariḥHari — Kṛṣṇa — as the one who acts nominative subject of vyatanotहरि (कृष्ण) ने
tādṛśam aparama second host exactly like them, identical in every detail accusative object of vyatanot; tādṛśa (of that very kind) + apara (another)ठीक वैसा ही दूसरा (समूह)
tathāin just such a way — leaning forward to the yathā of the next line correlative adverb answered by yathā in L2उसी प्रकार (जिसका उत्तर आगे यथा से मिलता है)
vyatanotbrought forth, spread out into being [the duplicates] imperfect of vi-√tan, to extend, produceरच दिया, फैला दिया
hariḥ — Hari, Kṛṣṇa; śiśu-kule hate vidhinā — once the flock of little ones had been spirited off by Vidhi (Brahmā); tādṛśam aparam — a second host exactly like them; tathā vyatanot — brought forth in just such a way [that…].
This is the pastime of Brahmā's bewilderment. Vidhi — that is Brahmā, the creator — carried off the whole flock of little ones, Kṛṣṇa's cowherd boys along with their calves. At once Hari brought forth a second set exactly like them, identical down to the last detail. And he did it in such a way — the line now leans forward to the 'so that' that the next line will supply.
The first line of an udāharaṇa illustrating saṅkṣipti ('condensation'), the aṅga defined in the immediately preceding kārikā (ref 248, v150): saṅkṣiptir uktā saṅkṣipta-vastu-sṛṣṭir mahādbhutā — 'saṅkṣipti is declared to be the greatly wondrous creation of condensed matter.' The verse fits it exactly: Kṛṣṇa's instant re-creation of the entire multitude of boys and calves is a saṅkṣipta-vastu-sṛṣṭi (a compressed making of the material) that is mahādbhutā, greatly wondrous. vidhi is a lexical name of Brahmā, the ordainer; the scene is the well-known Brahma-vimohana-līlā. The quoted verse's own source is not named (the lead-in is only 'yathā—').

saḥhe — Vidhi, Brahmā himself nominative subject, picking up the vidhi of L1वह (अर्थात् पहली पंक्ति का विधि—ब्रह्मा)

viramatu parasya vārtām — never mind talk of anyone else; saḥ — he, Vidhi (Brahmā); svayam eva — his very self; yathā visismaye — was struck with wonder [in just the way tathā pointed to].
Now the 'so that' arrives. Never mind anyone else's astonishment — set every other wonder aside. The very Vidhi himself — Brahmā, the one who had spirited the boys away — was left dumbstruck at what Hari had done. That is how wondrous the re-creation was: it astonished even its own author. This wonder is the 'greatly wondrous' (mahādbhuta) mark that the definition of saṅkṣipti calls for.

Never mind anyone else's astonishment — set every other marvel aside.
