Two more marks of the garbhāṅka. First, its own storyline stays compact — not elaborated out at length; it is a small act inside an act, not a second full play. Second, whatever it shows must stay tied to the main plot already under way, not drift off on a story of its own.
गर्भाङ्क वह होता है जिसकी कथावस्तु अधिक विस्तृत न हो। और वह प्रस्तुत मुख्य कथा से सम्बद्ध बना रहता है, उसी को आगे जोड़ता है।
This kārikā continues the lakṣaṇa of the garbhāṅka — the 'embedded act,' an act set inside another act — begun at 219–220; so'yaṁ in L2 points back to it.
यह कारिका गर्भाङ्क के लक्षण को आगे बढ़ाती है — गर्भाङ्क अर्थात् 'भीतर बैठा अङ्क', एक अङ्क के भीतर रखा हुआ अङ्क, जिसका वर्णन २१९–२२० से आरम्भ हुआ था; इसी कारण अगली पंक्ति का 'सोऽयम्' पीछे उसी की ओर संकेत करता है।

And this garbhāṅka is never to be set in the very first act — playwrights who know their craft do not put it there. Since it must fasten onto a plot already running (L1), the opening act gives it nothing yet to connect to; so it belongs later, once the main play is under way.
यह गर्भाङ्क काव्य के मर्मज्ञों को प्रथम अङ्क में नहीं रचना चाहिए। पहले अङ्क में इसका निषेध है।

The garbhāṅka, the act-within-an-act, should have a storyline that is not spun out at length, and it must stay tied to the main matter already under way; and this same embedded act is never to be placed in the very first act by those who are expert in the craft of poetry.

A defining kārikā (lakṣaṇa) of the garbhāṅka: it gives two further marks — a compact plot bound to the running story — and lays down the rule barring it from the opening act.
