L1definition
svagataṁ svaika-vijñeyaṁ prakāśaṁ tad dvidhā bhavet |
svagataṁsvagata — a line spoken to oneself, the stage 'aside'; here the term being defined nom. sg. neut.; sva-gata = 'gone to oneself', i.e. addressed inwardस्वगत — जो वचन अपने ही प्रति (मन-ही-मन) कहा जाता है
svaika-vijñeyaṁis meant to be understood by the speaker alone (sva-eka-vijñeya = 'to be known by oneself only') nom. sg. neut., the defining predicate of svagata; sva + eka tightens it to 'oneself and no one else'जो केवल अपने एक को ही जानने योग्य होता है, और किसी को नहीं — यही स्वगत का लक्षण है
prakāśaṁ tadthat prakāśa — speech delivered openly, for others on stage to hear prakāśaṁ nom. sg. neut., the second term; tad ('that') picks it up as the subject of what followsऔर प्रकाश (प्रकट रूप से कहा जाने वाला वचन) — उस 'तद्' को आगे के विषय का कर्ता बनाकर उठाया गया है
dvidhā bhavetis, in its turn, of two kinds dvidhā = 'in two ways'; bhavet optative, the standard 'is/comes to be' of a lakṣaṇaदो प्रकार का होता है — 'भवेत्' विधिलिङ् लक्षण का सामान्य क्रियापद है
svagataṁ — svagata, the aside; svaika-vijñeyaṁ — is what the speaker alone is to understand; tad prakāśaṁ — that prakāśa, open speech; dvidhā bhavet — is of two kinds.
Two speech-modes are pinned down here. First, svagata — a 'spoken-to-oneself' line: it is svaika-vijñeya, meant for the speaker's own understanding and heard by no other character on stage. Then prakāśa — speech spoken out openly, for the others to hear. And prakāśa, Rūpa adds, itself falls into two kinds; the next line will name them.
This continues the division opened at 8.111, where śravya (the 'to-be-heard') asūcya was split into svagata and prakāśa. svagata and prakāśa are standard nāṭya-śāstra modes of stage speech (alongside janāntika and apavārita, defined just below); this kārikā gives svagata its mark and then turns to subdividing prakāśa.

bhedataḥby this division — these, and only these, are the two kinds abl. of bheda, 'from/by way of the distinction'; caps the twofold split announced in L1भेद के द्वारा, अर्थात् इस भेद-दृष्टि से — जो L1 में कहे गए दो-प्रकार के विभाजन को पूरा करता है
[tad prakāśaṁ dvidhā bhavet —] bhedataḥ — by division into; sarva-prakāśaṁ niyata-prakāśaṁ ca iti — sarva-prakāśa and niyata-prakāśa.
Here are the two kinds of prakāśa. Sarva-prakāśa is speech open to all — every character on stage is meant to hear it. Niyata-prakāśa is speech open only to a fixed, restricted set — a named few hear it, the others do not. 'By this division' — bhedataḥ — closes the count at just these two. (The next kārikās take up sarva-prakāśa's own subdivisions.)
svagataṁ svaika-vijñeyaṁ [bhavet]; tad prakāśaṁ [tu] sarva-prakāśaṁ niyata-prakāśaṁ ca iti bhedataḥ dvidhā bhavet.
A svagata line — the stage 'aside' — is one meant for the speaker alone to grasp, heard by no other character present. Prakāśa, open speech spoken out for the others to hear, is in its turn of two kinds by this division: sarva-prakāśa, open to all, meant for every character on stage; and niyata-prakāśa, open only to a fixed, restricted party, heard by a named few and not the rest.
Definition kārikā continuing the split begun at 8.111: it gives svagata its mark and subdivides prakāśa into sarva-prakāśa and niyata-prakāśa.
