vacana-vinyāsaḥ — an arrangement of words; dvy-arthaḥ — that carries a double meaning; suśliṣṭaḥ — tightly knit; kāvya-yojitaḥ — and worked smoothly into the poetry.
dvy-arthaḥ — जिसके दो अर्थ हों; vacana-vinyāsaḥ — वह शब्द-रचना; suśliṣṭaḥ — सुसंबद्ध; kāvya-yojitaḥ — काव्य में पिरोई हुई।
Take a phrase — an arrangement of words — that says two things at once. It is tightly knit, and it sits naturally inside the poetry, not forced in.
जिस शब्द-रचना के दो अर्थ हों, जो सुसंबद्ध हो और काव्य में इस प्रकार पिरोई हो कि दोनों अर्थ सहज ही निकलें — ऐसा वचन-विन्यास ही यहाँ लक्ष्य है। यही दो अर्थ इस भेद का प्रधान लक्षण है।
This is Nāṭyaśāstra 19.34, quoted to define the FOURTH patākā-sthāna (an incidental turn in the play that quietly foreshadows a coming development). It follows the definitions of the second (kārikā 190, nā.śā. 19.32) and third (kārikā 191, nā.śā. 19.33) in the same run. The mark of this fourth kind is the dvy-artha — a phrase whose two meanings fit two different things alike; hence it is named tulya-viśeṣaṇa ('the matching qualifier'), the second of the two subtypes listed back at kārikā 186 (nc.8.86). Its illustration follows in the next unit (192q1): Suparṇa's double-meaning speech in Act 5, which hints at the winning of Candrāvalī.

upanyāsena yuktaḥ — [when it is] furnished with an upanyāsa, a pointed suggestion; tu — and so; caturtham — as the fourth [patākā-sthānaka]; parikīrtitam — it is proclaimed.
upanyāsena — उपन्यास से; yuktaḥ — युक्त; tu — और; caturtham — चौथा (पताका-स्थानक); parikīrtitam — कहा गया है।
And it carries an upanyāsa — a pointed suggestion that quietly proposes what is coming. A word-arrangement like this is proclaimed the fourth patākā-sthāna.
और जो उपन्यास से युक्त हो — अर्थात् जो आने वाली बात का सुझावपूर्ण संकेत भी दे — वही चौथा पताका-स्थानक कहा गया है। इस प्रकार द्वि-अर्थ शब्द-रचना केवल शब्द-क्रीड़ा नहीं करती, प्रत्युत आगे के घटना-मोड़ की ओर संकेत भी करती है।
upanyāsa is the nāṭya term for a suggestive statement that introduces a matter with a hint of its ground — here the double-meaning phrase does not merely play on words but points ahead to the coming turn of events. The gender shifts in the line: yuktaḥ (masc.) still describes the vinyāsaḥ, while caturtham parikīrtitam (neut.) predicates the understood patākā-sthānakam.

A turn of phrase that carries two meanings at once, tightly knit and worked smoothly into the poetry, and moreover furnished with an upanyāsa — a pointed suggestion that quietly proposes the matter to come — is proclaimed the fourth patākā-sthāna.
जो शब्द-रचना दो अर्थों वाली हो, भली-भाँति गुँथी हुई और काव्य में इस प्रकार पिरोई हुई हो कि दोनों अर्थ सहज ही निकलें, और साथ ही जो उपन्यास से युक्त हो — अर्थात् आने वाली बात का सुझावपूर्ण संकेत भी दे — वही चौथा पताका-स्थानक कहा गया है।
Defines the fourth patākā-sthāna (the tulya-viśeṣaṇa, 'matching-qualifier', subtype); Nāṭyaśāstra 19.34 quoted, its mark the dvy-artha, the double-meaning phrase — illustrated in the next unit by Suparṇa's speech.
यह कारिका चौथे पताका-स्थानक (श्लिष्टोत्तर) का लक्षण देती है — द्वि-अर्थ वचन-विन्यास जो आगे की घटना की ओर संकेत करे।
