smara-rodhanānubandhī krama-vistārita-kalā-vilāsa-bhavaḥ |
smara-rodhanānubandhī[of the union] entailing the quelling of love's torment — union stills the pangs of longing (smara); [of the moon] borne on the head of Śiva, the queller of Cupid (smara-rodhana) nom. sg. masc., first descriptor of rādhikā-saṅgaḥ (in L2); the śleṣa turns on smara-rodhana = 'the checking of desire' (union-reading) vs. 'he who checked Cupid = Śiva' (moon-reading, the moon riding Śiva's crest); anubandhin = 'entailing / attached to'काम-निग्रह के अनुबन्ध वाला (श्लेष में — 'स्मर-रोधन' = जिसने काम को रोका, अर्थात् शिव; उससे सम्बद्ध होने के कारण = चन्द्रमा, जो शिव की जटा पर विराजमान है)
krama-vistārita-kalā-vilāsa-bhavaḥ[of the union] arising from the play of the amorous arts (kalā) unfurled step by step; [of the moon] whose splendor comes to be from its digits (kalā) spread out phase by phase nom. sg., second descriptor; the pun rides on kalā = 'art, skill' (union) or 'a digit of the moon' (moon); krama-vistārita = 'expanded gradually'; -bhava = 'born of, arising from'क्रमशः विस्तृत कला-विलास से उत्पन्न (श्लेष में — कला = चन्द्र-कला, जो क्रम से बढ़ती हुई विलसित होती है)
[rādhikā-saṅgaḥ —] smara-rodhanānubandhī — entailing the quelling of love-longing / borne by Śiva the foe of Cupid; krama-vistārita-kalā-vilāsa-bhavaḥ — arising from the amorous arts unfurled step by step / from the moon's digits waxing phase by phase.
smara-rodhanānubandhī — काम-निग्रह के अनुबन्ध वाला (श्लेष से — 'स्मर-रोधन' = शिव, जिससे सम्बद्ध चन्द्रमा); krama-vistārita-kalā-vilāsa-bhavaḥ — क्रमशः विस्तृत कला-विलास से उत्पन्न (श्लेष से — कला = चन्द्र-कला); ये दोनों (L2 में आने वाले) राधिका-सङ्ग के विशेषण हैं।
Kṛṣṇa describes his union with Rādhā, and every word carries a second, moon-meaning — this is why the verse is quoted here. First: the union 'entailed the quelling of love's torment' — being with the beloved stills the pangs of longing; and read of the moon, smara-rodhana is Śiva, the burner of Cupid, on whose head the moon rides. Second: this joy 'arose from the amorous arts unfolded step by step' — kalā, the arts of love, drawn out little by little; and of the moon, kalā are its digits, its splendor waxing phase by phase.
यह विशेषण काम के निरोध से जुड़ा हुआ है, और क्रमशः विस्तृत कला-विलास से उत्पन्न है। श्लेष से यही शब्द चन्द्रमा को भी दर्शाते हैं — जो स्मर-रोधन अर्थात् शिव से सम्बद्ध है, और जिसकी चन्द्र-कलाएँ धीरे-धीरे बढ़ती जाती हैं।
An udāharaṇa of the second patākā-sthānaka defined just above at 8.90 — the 'vacaḥ-sātiśaya-śliṣṭa' variety, a speech intensely double in meaning that rests on the poetic subject-matter. Here every descriptor of Kṛṣṇa's union with Rādhā puns on the moon (kṣaṇadā-pati), so that plain praise of the union simultaneously paints the risen moon. Quoted from the second act (2.17), spoken by Kṛṣṇa.

kṣaṇadā-patir iva dṛṣṭaḥ kṣaṇa-dāyī rādhikā-saṅgaḥ
kṣaṇadā-patiḥ ivajust like the moon, the lord of the night (kṣaṇadā) iva = 'like,' marking the standard of comparison; kṣaṇadā ('the leisure-giver') = night, and its pati ('lord') = the moonरात्रि के पति चन्द्रमा के समान (क्षणदा = रात्रि, उसका पति = चन्द्रमा; 'इव' उपमा का सूचक)
dṛṣṭaḥso it appeared, so it was seen to be nom. sg. past part., predicate of rādhikā-saṅgaḥदेखा गया / दृष्टिगोचर हुआ (यह राधिका-सङ्ग का विधेय है)
kṣaṇa-dāyīa bestower of festive delight (kṣaṇa, leisure-joy) — the very thing for which the night and its lord the moon are named nom. sg., third descriptor; kṣaṇa = 'festive leisure, a moment'; note the yamaka echo kṣaṇadā-pati / kṣaṇa-dāyī, which is exactly what motivates the moon-comparisonआनन्द के क्षण देने वाला (क्षण = उत्सव-क्षण; 'क्षणदा-पति / क्षण-दायी' का यमक ही चन्द्र-उपमा को प्रेरित करता है)
rādhikā-saṅgaḥunion with Rādhikā — the subject that all these words describe nom. sg., the grammatical subject of the whole verse; saṅga = 'union, keeping company'राधिका का सङ्ग / मिलन (यही पूरे श्लोक का कर्ता है; सङ्ग = मिलन, साथ रहना)
rādhikā-saṅgaḥ — union with Rādhikā; kṣaṇa-dāyī — bestowing festive delight; kṣaṇadā-patiḥ iva dṛṣṭaḥ — appeared just like the moon, the lord of the night.
kṣaṇadā-patiḥ iva — रात्रि के पति चन्द्रमा के समान; dṛṣṭaḥ — देखा गया; kṣaṇa-dāyī — आनन्द-क्षण देने वाला; rādhikā-saṅgaḥ — राधिका का सङ्ग (यही वाक्य का कर्ता है)। अर्थात् — राधिका का सङ्ग चन्द्रमा के समान, आनन्द-क्षण देने वाला होकर दृष्टिगोचर हुआ।
Then the comparison lands: the union 'appeared just like the moon, the lord of the night.' It was kṣaṇa-dāyī, a giver of festive delight — and that is the very word from which night (kṣaṇadā) and its lord the moon take their name, so the likeness is exact, not merely decorative. The subject of the whole sentence is rādhikā-saṅga, union with Rādhikā, praised throughout as though it were the risen moon.

Union with Rādhikā appeared just like the moon, the lord of the night: it entailed the quelling of love's torment, it arose from the amorous arts unfurled step by step, and it was a bestower of festive delight. And every phrase paints the moon as well — smara-rodhana is Śiva, the burner of Cupid, on whose head the moon rides; kalā are the moon's digits, its splendor waxing phase by phase; and kṣaṇa-dāyī, 'giver of festive leisure,' is the very word from which the night (kṣaṇadā) and its lord the moon take their name, so the likeness is exact.

यह द्वितीय अङ्क से उद्धृत कृष्ण-वचन है, जो श्लेष-अलंकार का उदाहरण देता है — जहाँ एक ही वर्णन राधिका-सङ्ग और चन्द्रमा दोनों पर घटित होता है।
