Now the ornament pṛcchā, 'questioning back.' Sometimes an answer is not a statement at all, but another question. When the reply itself takes the form of a question, that device is what the tradition calls pṛcchā.
pṛcchā ('a question, an asking') is one of the thirty-six bhūṣaṇas, the ornaments of dramatic speech that this division treats. As an ornament it is the turn where a speaker meets a question or a remark not with an answer but with a question of his own — a counter-question standing where the answer should be.

Rūpa's defining kārikā for the bhūṣaṇa pṛcchā ('questioning back'): the reply-slot filled by a counter-question rather than a statement.
