dhatte na sthiti-yogyatāṁ caraṇayor aṅke’pi paṅkeruhaṁ
paṅkeruhaṁthe lotus — the stock thing poets compare lovely feet to, brought in only to be rejected nominative: subject of dhatteकमल (धत्ते क्रिया का कर्ता)
caraṇayoḥof [your] two feet genitive dual, with aṅke — 'in the region of the feet'दोनों चरणों का — अङ्के के साथ 'चरणों के प्रदेश में'
aṅke’pieven at their side, even in their vicinity aṅka (locative) = flank, side, region; api = even — not even so much as nearby, let alone their equalउनके समीप भी; अपि = भी — इतना भी नहीं कि पास ठहर सके, समता तो दूर रही
sthiti-yogyatāṁthe worthiness to stay, the fitness to remain accusative: object of dhatte (sthiti = staying; yogyatā = fitness)ठहरने की योग्यता को (धत्ते का कर्म; स्थिति = ठहरना, योग्यता = उपयुक्तता)
na dhattedoes not attain, does not carryधारण नहीं करता
paṅkeruhaṁ — the lotus; caraṇayoḥ aṅke api — even at the side of [your] two feet; sthiti-yogyatāṁ — the worthiness to remain; na dhatte — does not attain.
Kṛṣṇa is winning over his angry beloved by praising her, and this is how he does it. Poets always liken beautiful feet to the lotus. But, he says, the lotus does not even earn the right to stay beside your two feet. Even at their side it has no fitness to remain — so the stock comparison is thrown out as unworthy before it can be made.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of siddhi, a limb of the dramatic juncture (sandhy-aṅga), quoted from the tenth act of Rūpa's own Lalita-Mādhava (10.11). The kārikā defined siddhi as the unexpected coming-together of the desired aim (atarkitopapannaḥ ... iṣṭārtha-saṅgamaḥ); the lead-in then records an alternate view — 'someone (kaścit) holds, per Sāhitya-darpaṇa 6.186, that siddhi is the praising of many things (bahūnāṁ kīrtanam) to accomplish the intended goal' — and this verse illustrates that reading. Its frame is Kṛṣṇa's remark just before it: 'O beloved, when I gaze at your face, no objects of comparison (upamāna-vastūni) rise into my heart. For—'. The verse then explains why: each candidate upamāna is unworthy — the lotus for the feet (L1), the jewel-mirror for the nail (L2), the moon for the face (L3-L4).

ratna-mukuraḥthe jewel-mirror — the polished gem poets hold up to match a gleaming nail nominative: subject of dakṣāyateरत्नमय दर्पण (दक्षायते का कर्ता)
aṅguṣṭha-nakhasyaagainst the nail of [your] big toe genitive: the standard the mirror must measure up to (aṅguṣṭha = big toe, keeping the foot-imagery of L1; nakha = nail)अंगूठे के नख की — वह मानदण्ड जिसकी बराबरी दर्पण को करनी है (अंगूठा L1 की चरण-छवि को आगे बढ़ाता है, नख = नाखून)
kakṣāsuin matters of rivalry, on an equal footing kakṣā (locative plural) = rivalry, parity — the arena in which the mirror fails to hold upस्पर्धा में — वह रणभूमि जहाँ दर्पण टिक नहीं पाता
dakṣāyateproves competent, is able [to compete] denominative from dakṣa 'able'; with na api and kakṣāsu — 'cannot even hold its own as a rival'समर्थ होता है (दक्ष से नामधातु; न अपि और कक्षासु के साथ — 'प्रतिद्वन्द्वी के रूप में भी टिक नहीं पाता')
ratna-mukuraḥ — the jewel-mirror; aṅguṣṭha-nakhasya — against the nail of [your] big toe; kakṣāsu — in rivalry; na api dakṣāyate — is not even competent.
Take the next comparison. A gleaming toenail is usually likened to a jewel-mirror, a polished gem. But not even that jewel-mirror is able to hold its own against the nail of your big toe. Set beside your nail, the mirror simply cannot compete. A second stock upamāna, rejected like the first.

añjasāreadily, truly, at once adverb qualifying the na aucityaṁ ... bhajane of L4सचमुच (क्रियाविशेषण, L4 के न औचित्यं...
caṇḍi — O fierce one; tvan-mukha-maṇḍalasya paritaḥ nirmañchane api — even in the lamp-circling all around the orb of your face; añjasā — readily; [candrāvalī bhajane na aucityaṁ — the row of moons attains no fitness to serve] (completed in L4).
Now he turns to the face. O fierce one, he says, the poets' emblem for a lovely face is the moon. But picture the very lowliest use a moon could be put to: to be waved round and round your face in the auspicious lamp-circling (nirmañchana) and then thrown away. Even for that humble service — the thought finishes in the next line — the moon falls short.
nirmañchana (also nīrājana/ārātrika) is the rite of waving lamps or valuables around a person and casting them off, to take away all misfortune. To say a thing is 'fit only for the nirmañchana of X' is a hyperbole of inferiority: it is so far beneath X that it is good only to be circled around X and discarded. Kṛṣṇa reaches for even this lowest bar — and then denies the moon even that.

naucityaṁ bhajane samujjvala-kalā sāndrāpi candrāvalī
candrāvalīa row of moons, a whole string of moons — and, by śleṣa, the name Candrāvalī nominative: subject; candra + āvalī = 'row of moons', simultaneously the proper name Candrāvalīचन्द्रों की पंक्ति (कर्ता; चन्द्र + आवली = 'चन्द्रों की आवली', साथ ही यह चन्द्रावली नामक गोपी का नाम भी)
samujjvala-kalāwith brilliantly blazing digits — every phase of the moon ablaze; (śleṣa: possessed of dazzling arts) kalā = a digit/phase of the moon, also 'art, skill' — carries both readingsअत्यन्त उज्ज्वल कलाओंवाली — कला = चन्द्रमा की कला, तथा 'कला/कौशल'; दोनों अर्थ चलते हैं
sāndrā apieven though full, thick, at its brimming fullest; (śleṣa: even though intense, ardent) api = even though — a concession: at its very fullest, it still falls shortघनी होने पर भी; अपि = यद्यपि — छूट: अपने पूर्णतम रूप में भी वह कम पड़ती है
bhajanein serving [for that lamp-circling], in being employed as the offering; (śleṣa: in worshipful attendance) locative: the service in which fitness is deniedसेवा में (जिस सेवा में योग्यता नकारी गई)
na aucityaṁattains no fitness, has no appropriateness aucitya = fitness, appropriateness; with añjasā of L3 — 'is simply not fit'योग्यता नहीं — औचित्य = उपयुक्तता; L3 के अञ्जसा के साथ 'सर्वथा योग्य नहीं'
candrāvalī — the row of moons; samujjvala-kalā sāndrā api — even full and with brilliantly blazing digits; bhajane — in serving [for the lamp-circling round your face]; na aucityaṁ — attains no fitness.
Even a whole row of moons — full to the brim, every digit blazing bright — is not fit to serve in that lamp-circling around your face. So the finished argument: not the lotus for your feet, not the jewel-mirror for your nail, not even a string of full moons for your face. No standard comparison is worthy of you — which is exactly why, he began, none rises into his heart. There is also a hidden second reading resting on the one word candrāvalī: it means 'a row of moons,' but it is also the name of Candrāvalī, Kṛṣṇa's other beloved. Read that way, the line says even Candrāvalī — for all her ardor (sāndrā) and her dazzling arts (samujjvala-kalā) — is not fit to wait upon your face: the sharpest flattery of all, and the many-fold praise (bahūnāṁ kīrtanam) that makes this verse an example of siddhi.
The verse pivots on a śleṣa (double meaning) carried by candrāvalī: literally candra + āvalī = 'a row/string of moons', but the same word is the name of the gopī Candrāvalī, a co-beloved of Kṛṣṇa in the Lalita-Mādhava. The two supporting words split cleanly across the readings: kalā = a 'digit' of the moon and also an 'art/skill'; sāndrā = 'full, dense' of the moon and also 'intense, ardent' of a woman. On the surface reading a heap of full moons cannot serve the lamp-circling of her face; on the second, even Candrāvalī herself, at her most ardent and accomplished, is unfit to attend it. Since the play names no addressee here, this decode leaves her unnamed and marks only what the words carry.
caṇḍi, paṅkeruhaṁ caraṇayoḥ aṅke api sthiti-yogyatāṁ na dhatte; ratna-mukuraḥ aṅguṣṭha-nakhasya kakṣāsu na api dakṣāyate; tvan-mukha-maṇḍalasya paritaḥ nirmañchane api samujjvala-kalā sāndrā api candrāvalī añjasā bhajane na aucityaṁ [dhatte].
caṇḍi, paṅkeruhaṁ caraṇayoḥ aṅke’pi sthiti-yogyatāṁ na dhatte; ratna-mukuraḥ api aṅguṣṭha-nakhasya kakṣāsu na dakṣāyate; tvan-mukha-maṇḍalasya paritaḥ nirmañchane’pi añjasā samujjvala-kalā sāndrā api candrāvalī bhajane na aucityaṁ (bhajate)।
O fierce one, the lotus does not earn even the fitness to stay at the side of your two feet; nor is the jewel-mirror able to hold its own in rivalry against the nail of your big toe; and a whole row of moons, brilliant with blazing digits and full to the very brim, is truly of no fitness even to serve in the lamp-circling all around the orb of your face. (And by its double sense, even Candrāvalī, for all her ardor and dazzling arts, is unfit to attend upon your face.)
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse), from Rūpa's own Lalita-Mādhava 10.11, of siddhi as a limb of the dramatic juncture (sandhy-aṅga) — cited for the alternate Sāhitya-darpaṇa (6.186) reading that siddhi is 'the praising of many things' (bahūnāṁ kīrtanam) to accomplish the intended aim, which the heaped rejection of every stock upamāna, capped by the candrāvalī śleṣa, illustrates.
