L1definition
prasiddhir loka-vikhyātair arthaiḥ svārtha-prasādhanam ||
prasiddhiḥprasiddhi (the dramatic ornament 'established renown') — the term now being definedप्रसिद्धि (नामक वाक्-अलंकार) यह है
loka-vikhyātaiḥby drawing on things celebrated the world over instr. pl. of means; loka-vikhyāta = 'widely known among people,' qualifying arthaiḥलोक में विख्यात (प्रसिद्ध) — जो अर्थों का विशेषण है
arthaiḥ— that is, by matters, facts, or themes everyone already accepts instr. pl., the head noun that loka-vikhyātaiḥ describes; artha here = 'matter, theme,' not 'money'उन अर्थों (विषयों, बातों) के द्वारा — यहाँ अर्थ का तात्पर्य विषय-वस्तु से है, धन से नहीं
svārtha-prasādhanamis the making-good of one's own point — getting one's own aim to land nom. sg. predicate completing the definition; sva-artha 'one's own aim/meaning' + prasādhana 'accomplishing, establishing'अपने अभीष्ट अर्थ (प्रयोजन) का साधन करना — यही लक्षण है
prasiddhiḥ — prasiddhi; loka-vikhyātaiḥ arthaiḥ — by matters famous throughout the world; svārtha-prasādhanam — is the establishing of one's own point.
Now Rūpa defines the ornament called prasiddhi, 'established renown.' The idea is simple: you make your own point stick by leaning on what everyone already knows. Take facts and themes celebrated the world over, and use them to carry home what you are trying to say (svārtha, one's own aim). Because the support is drawn from widely-known, accepted matter, the device earns the name prasiddhi.
prasiddhi is one of the lakṣaṇas — the recognized ornaments of dramatic speech — treated here in Vibhāga 8, and it comes right after siddhi in the preceding units. The lead-in to that discussion quoted the view that siddhi is 'the mention of many things to accomplish the intended sense' (SāhD 6.186); prasiddhi is narrower — it accomplishes one's own point specifically by appeal to what is renowned in the world (loka-vikhyātaiḥ arthaiḥ). Its illustration follows in the next unit (6.28).
loka-vikhyātaiḥ arthaiḥ svārtha-prasādhanam prasiddhiḥ.
loka-vikhyātaiḥ arthaiḥ svārtha-prasādhanam (yat, sā) prasiddhiḥ (nāma alaṃkāraḥ)।
When one carries home one's own point by leaning on matters that are celebrated the world over, that is the ornament called prasiddhi ('established renown'): making one's own aim land by appeal to what everyone already accepts.
Rūpa's defining kārikā (lakṣaṇa) of the dramatic ornament prasiddhi in Vibhāga 8 — accomplishing one's own aim through world-famous, accepted matter; its illustration follows in the next unit.
