dhīraḥ prakṛtyāpi janaḥ kadācid
dhīraḥwho is steadfast, self-controlled — describing the person nom., agreeing with janaḥधीर अर्थात् स्वभाव से गम्भीर और संयमी पुरुष
prakṛtyāby his very nature instr. of mannerस्वभाव से ही, प्रकृति से
janaḥa person — the subjectपुरुष, मनुष्य
kadācidat some moment, on occasionकभी-कभी, किसी अवसर पर
prakṛtyā dhīraḥ api janaḥ — even a person self-controlled by his very nature; kadācid — at some moment
Even a person who is a dhīra — steadfast, self-possessed by his very nature — will, at some moment... The verb comes in the next line. First he sets up the hard case: not a weak man, but the naturally composed one.
An udāharaṇa of dṛṣṭānta, the 'illustrative example' defined in the previous kārikā (160): 'sva-pakṣe darśanaṁ hetor dṛṣṭāntaḥ sādhya-siddhaye' — showing the hetu (reason) on one's own side to establish the sādhya (what is to be proven). Here the sādhya is that even a dhīra undergoes vikāra; the dṛṣṭānta that proves it is the earth (next lines). Spoken by Kṛṣṇa — the lead-in has him reflecting (vimṛśya) and saying 'athavā' ('or rather…') in the ninth act, reasoning about his own perturbation.

dhatte vikāraṁ samayānurodhāt |
dhattehe takes on, he assumes 3rd sg. pres., dhā- (ātmanepada)धारण कर लेता है, ग्रहण कर लेता है
vikāraṁa change, a perturbation — what he takes onविकार को, मन की विकृति या क्षोभ को
samayānurodhātbecause he yields to the occasion, bowing to circumstance abl. of cause; samaya + anurodhaक्योंकि वह अवसर के अनुरोध से, समय की माँग के कारण वैसा करता है
samaya-anurodhāt — because he yields to the occasion; vikāraṁ dhatte — he takes on a change
...he takes on a change. And why? Because he yields to the occasion. The circumstance presses, and even the steady man is altered. That is the point to be proven (sādhya).

kṣāntiṁ hi muktvā balavac calantī
kṣāntiṁher forbearance, her patience — what is let go acc., object of muktvāक्षमा को, सहनशीलता को
hifor — this now gives the proofक्योंकि — यहाँ हेतु दिखाया जा रहा है
muktvāhaving let go ofछोड़कर, त्यागकर
calantītrembling, quaking — describing the earth fem. pres. part., agreeing with bhūḥ (next line)काँपती हुई, हिलती हुई — यह विशेषण आगे 'bhūḥ' (पृथ्वी) से लगता है
hi — for; kṣāntiṁ muktvā — having let go of her forbearance; balavat calantī — trembling violently
For — and here comes the proof — she lets go of her forbearance and trembles with force. 'She' is the earth, named in the next line. The 'hi' signals that the example is now being produced.

sarvaṁsahā bhūr api bhūri dṛṣṭā
sarvaṁsahāthe all-enduring one — she who bears everything epithet/name of the earthसर्वंसहा — सब कुछ सहन करने वाली, यह पृथ्वी का ही विशेषण एवं नाम है
bhūḥthe earth — the subject of the exampleपृथ्वी, भूमि
dṛṣṭāhas been seen [to do so] fem. past part., agreeing with bhūḥदेखी गई है, देखी जाती है — यह पृथ्वी से लगने वाला भूतकालिक विशेषण है
sarvaṁsahā bhūḥ api — even the all-enduring earth; bhūri dṛṣṭā — has often been seen [so, trembling]
Even the earth — Sarvaṁsahā, 'she who bears all' — has been seen, again and again, to tremble like this. That closes the dṛṣṭānta: the most enduring thing there is still shakes. So if the earth can, a steadfast man surely can. The reason (hetu) is shown on its own side, and the point stands.
sarvaṁsahā ('all-enduring') is a standing epithet — indeed a proper name — of the Earth (pṛthvī, bhū), the one who bears every burden without complaint. Choosing precisely her makes the dṛṣṭānta bite: the example is the hardest possible case, an entity defined by endurance, yet even she is seen to quake.
prakṛtyā dhīraḥ api janaḥ kadācid samaya-anurodhāt vikāraṁ dhatte; hi sarvaṁsahā bhūḥ api kṣāntiṁ muktvā balavat calantī bhūri dṛṣṭā.
prakṛtyā dhīraḥ api janaḥ kadācid samayānurodhāt vikāraṁ dhatte; hi (यतः) sarvaṁsahā bhūḥ api kṣāntiṁ muktvā balavat calantī bhūri dṛṣṭā।
Even a man steadfast by his very nature will, at some moment, take on a change of feeling, bowing to the pressure of the occasion; for even the all-enduring Earth — Sarvaṁsahā, she who bears every burden — has again and again been seen to let go of her forbearance and quake with force.
A quoted udāharaṇa illustrating dṛṣṭānta, the 'illustrative example' figure defined in the preceding kārikā (160): the reason is shown on one's own side (even the earth trembles) to establish the sādhya (even a dhīra undergoes vikāra). Spoken by Kṛṣṇa in the ninth act, reflecting (vimṛśya) and saying 'athavā' as he reasons about his own perturbation.
