prasīdatigrows gracious, shows her favourप्रसन्न होती है
asau satī bhāmā devī — that noble lady, queen Bhāmā (Satyabhāmā); katham adya na prasīdati — why does she not grow gracious today?
Why is it that this good queen Bhāmā — Satyabhāmā — shows me no favour today? Spoken aloud, Kṛṣṇa turns his own half-said slip into what sounds like open concern for her.
An udāharaṇa of saṁvṛtti — the sandhy-aṅga defined just before in nc.8.1: 'the self-concealing of what one has oneself said' (saṁvṛttiḥ svayam uktasya svayam ācchādanā bhavet). Quoted from the ninth act (navame, 9.59): Kṛṣṇa, having half-blurted 'Satyabhāmā, mayi katham—' before Candrāvalī, now buries the slip by recasting it aloud as worry over Bhāmā's coldness.
