saptiḥ saptī ratha iha rathaḥ kuñjaro me
saptiḥ saptīa horse — a horse! the noun doubled (sapti, horse) — the panic-device that runs through the whole verse: every thing is shouted twiceघोड़ा, घोड़ा!—सप्ति (घोड़ा) को दुहराकर पुकारना; यही दुहराव पूरे श्लोक में चलने वाला घबराहट का लक्षण है
ratha iha rathaḥa chariot — here, the chariot! iha 'here' wedged inside the doubled noun — 'bring the chariot here!'
kuñjaro memy elephant — bring it to me! me (dat./gen.) folds in 'for me / mine' — the shouter demands his own mountहाथी, मेरा!—'मे' (मेरे लिए/मेरा) जोड़कर पुकारने वाला अपनी ही सवारी माँगता है
saptiḥ saptī — a horse, a horse!; ratha iha rathaḥ — a chariot, here, the chariot!; kuñjaraḥ me — my elephant, to me!
From offstage a voice is shouting for its mounts. 'A horse — a horse! A chariot — bring the chariot here! My elephant!' Notice that every single thing is barked out twice. That doubling is the sound of panic itself; it is what the verse is built to reproduce.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of sambhrama, the flurried alarm defined in the previous kārikā (nc.6.72, ref 90). It is spoken (nepathye) from offstage and quoted from the fifth act (5.30) of the same play cited before. The whole scramble for horses, chariot, and weapons is sambhrama caught in action.

'A quiver — a quiver! A bow, yes, a bow! Ho there — a sword, a sword!' Now he calls for every weapon within reach, each named twice again, still in the same breathless rush. The listing does not slow down; it piles up.

'What is there to fear? No fear at all! Here — here I am! Ah — hurry, hurry, all of you!' He puffs himself up with bravado one instant and cries out for everyone to make haste the next. The mind is pulled two ways at once — that split is exactly the mark of sambhrama, flurried alarm.
