samādhānamis samādhāna — this is the name of that dramatic limb (aṅga)(उसी को) 'समाधान' (यह नाम)
ihahere — in this treatise on dramaturgy, in the technical vocabulary being laid outयहाँ, इस प्रकरण में
ucyateis what one calls it — the standard 'is termed' that closes a lakṣaṇa passive: 'it is said [to be]', the definitional markerकहा जाता है (कर्मवाच्य: यही परिभाषा का चिह्न है)
bījasya punar ādhānam — the re-lodging of the seed; samādhānam — [this] samādhāna; iha — here; ucyate — is said to be.
Now the limb called samādhāna. The bīja is the 'seed' — the small germ of the play's purpose, planted right at the start, from which the whole aim later grows. Sometimes that seed drops out of view as other events crowd in. samādhāna is the moment the seed is set down again: it is brought back and re-fixed so the main aim can go on developing toward its fruit. So the rule says plainly — the re-planting of the seed is here called samādhāna.
samādhāna is a sandhy-aṅga (a limb of one of the play's junctures), and the bīja is one of the five arthaprakṛtis (the causal elements that drive the plot) — the least of them, a mere seed that must be nursed all the way to the kārya (the final fruit). Because the seed is planted so early and so lightly, it needs to be taken up again at the right point; that re-taking-up is samādhāna, which is why the word carries punar, 'again'. In the illustration attached to this section, the seed re-lodged is Kṛṣṇa's happiness on hearing Rādhā's ankle-bells (the lead-in's rādhā-jhaṅkṛti-śravaṇa), placed alongside prāpti, the aṅga defined just before.
bījasya punar ādhānam [yat, tat] iha samādhānam ucyate.
bījasya punar ādhānam iha samādhānam ucyate।
When the bīja — the tiny seed of the play's purpose, planted at the very outset — is set down and re-lodged a second time so that the main aim can go on developing toward its fruit, that re-planting of the seed is here, in this treatise, called the limb samādhāna.
A lakṣaṇa (definition) kārikā defining the sandhy-aṅga samādhāna as the re-lodging of the bīja; the section's illustration is Kṛṣṇa's joy on hearing Rādhā's ankle-bells.
