The setup: sometimes the Sūtradhāra — the stage-manager still on stage — acts something out and drops a pointing remark, "here he is, this very man!", as if he can already see the character approaching. This first line gives the means: his own performance, plus a passing hint. What it amounts to is named in the next line.
सूत्रधार अपने अभिनय में "यह वही है" जैसा एक हल्का संकेत फेंक देता है। इसी उपक्षेप के द्वारा वह किसी पात्र के आगमन की भूमिका बाँध देता है।
prayogātiśaya is one of the aṅgas (limbs) of the mukha-sandhi, the opening juncture of a play. prayoga = the stage-enactment; atiśaya = a surplus, a heightening — here the Sūtradhāra's acting does extra duty, reaching past the prologue to foreshadow a character's entrance. upakṣepa is a "hint" or seed thrown out to prepare what is coming.
