The verse — decoded
L1gloss
atraiva candra-nāmāṅkitā maṅgalārthatā cāsti |
atraivain this very verse — the twelve-word nāndī just quoted atra + eva; eva 'this same' points back to the la.mā. 1.1 example cited in the lead-inइसी में ही — अर्थात् पूर्व में उद्धृत (लघुमाधव 1.1 वाले) उसी नान्दी-श्लोक में
candra-nāmāṅkitāmarked with the word 'candra' (the moon) aṅkita 'stamped, bearing'; fem., describing the maṅgala-arthatā — the verse carries the moon-word'चन्द्र' नाम से अंकित — जिस पर चन्द्र शब्द की छाप है; यह मंगलार्थता का विशेषण है
maṅgalārthatāthe serving of an auspicious (maṅgala) purposeमंगल होने का गुण — शुभ अर्थ की वहनशीलता
caalso — over and above the twelve wordsऔर — बारह पदों वाला होने के साथ यह भी
atraiva candra-nāmāṅkitā maṅgalārthatā ca asti — In this very verse there is present, too, the auspicious purpose, marked with the word 'candra' (the moon).
Rūpa adds one more point about this same verse — the twelve-word nāndī of his own Lalita-Mādhava that he has just quoted. It does not merely have the right number of words. It also carries the maṅgala, the auspicious note — and it does so by bearing the word candra, the moon. So the verse meets this further mark of a proper nāndī as well.
By nāṭya convention a nāndī should carry an auspicious word — often candra, the moon, a token of good fortune. Rūpa points out that his Lalita-Mādhava opening verse contains just such a moon-word, so it is maṅgala as well as twelve-worded. This closes his treatment of the nāndī, illustrated by the dvādaśa-padā (twelve-word) example of the lead-in, before he turns to the vṛtti of the prologue.

eṣā tuand this bhāratī tu turns from 'it is the fitting one' to prescribing its make-upऔर यह तो — 'यही उचित है' से आगे बढ़कर अब इसका स्वरूप कहा जाता है
bhāratī atra ucitā vṛttiḥ [asti]; eṣā tu caturaṅgikā — Here the fitting vṛtti is the bhāratī; and this one is four-limbed.
Rūpa now names the vṛtti — the mode of dramatic activity — proper to the prologue. It is the bhāratī, the speech-based style, the one carried in spoken dialogue. And this bhāratī has four aṅgas, four component limbs, which the next line lists.
The four vṛttis — bhāratī, sāttvatī, kaiśikī, ārabhaṭī — are the broad styles of dramatic representation. bhāratī is the verbal style, the one dominated by speech, and by convention the mode of the prastāvanā, spoken by the sūtradhāra. Rūpa returns to the full set of vṛttis in vibhāga 9.

prarocanā-mukhe caiva vīthī-prahasane tathā — namely prarocanā and āmukha, and likewise vīthī and prahasana.
Here are the four limbs of the bhāratī, given as two pairs in the dual. First prarocanā — the whetting of the audience — and mukha, that is the āmukha, the induction or opening scene. Then vīthī and prahasana. These four together make up the bhāratī vṛtti of the prologue. Rūpa takes up prarocanā itself in the very next verse.
The four aṅgas of the bhāratī are prarocanā, āmukha, vīthī, and prahasana. mukha here is short for āmukha, the induction — do not confuse it with the mukha-sandhi, the first of the five plot-junctures. vīthī and prahasana are also names of light one-act dramatic forms; as limbs of the bhāratī they are the witty, playful stretches of the prologue.
atra eva candra-nāma-aṅkitā maṅgala-arthatā ca asti | atra bhāratī ucitā vṛttiḥ [asti]; eṣā tu caturaṅgikā — prarocanā mukhe ca eva vīthī-prahasane tathā [iti].
atraiva candra-nāmāṅkitā maṅgalārthatā ca asti; atra eṣā bhāratī tu ucitā vṛttiḥ (asti), (sā ca) caturaṅgikā — prarocanā mukhe ca eva vīthī-prahasane tathā (iti catvāri aṅgāni)।
In this very verse — the twelve-word nāndī of his own Lalita-Mādhava (la.mā. 1.1) that he has just quoted — there is present, over and above the right count of words, an auspicious purport as well, and it carries that maṅgala by bearing the word candra, 'the moon.' Here in the prologue the fitting vṛtti, the mode of dramatic activity, is the bhāratī, the speech-based style; and this bhāratī is four-limbed — its four aṅgas being prarocanā (the whetting of the audience) and the mukha, that is the āmukha (the induction), and likewise vīthī and prahasana.
Closes the treatment of the nāndī — the twelve-word opening verse of the Lalita-Mādhava (la.mā. 1.1) is maṅgala too, since it bears a candra-word — and then, as a kārikā, defines the vṛtti proper to the prastāvanā as the bhāratī and enumerates its four aṅgas: prarocanā, āmukha, vīthī, and prahasana.
