kim punaḥ nityaḥ śabdaḥ āhosvit kāryaḥ .
But (kim punaḥ) is śabda eternal (nitya), or (āhosvit) produced (kārya)?
किन्तु क्या शब्द नित्य है अथवा कार्य?
saṅgrahe etat prādhānyena parīkṣitam nityaḥ vā syāt kāryaḥ vā iti .
In the Saṅgraha this was examined as the principal matter: whether it be eternal or (vā) produced — thus (iti).
संग्रह में यह प्रधानतया परीक्षित हुआ है — नित्य हो अथवा कार्य — इति।
tatra uktāḥ doṣāḥ prayojanāni api uktāni .
There the faults were stated, and the advantages too were stated.
वहाँ दोष कहे गए हैं, प्रयोजन भी कहे गए हैं।
tatra tu eṣaḥ nirṇayaḥ yadi eva nityaḥ atha api kāryaḥ ubhayathā api lakṣaṇam pravartyam iti .
But (tu) there this is the decision: whether it be eternal, or else (atha api) produced, in either case the lakṣaṇa must be set going — thus (iti).
किन्तु वहाँ यह निर्णय है: चाहे नित्य हो, अथवा कार्य भी हो — दोनों ही प्रकार से लक्षण प्रवृत्त करना होगा — इति।
