२७४- अतो गुणे।274. ato guṇe.अतः पञ्चम्यन्तं, गुणे सप्तम्यन्तं, द्विपदमिदं सूत्रम्।ataḥ ends in the fifth (ablative) case, guṇe ends in the seventh (locative) case; this sūtra has two words.उस्यपदान्तात् से अपदान्तात् और एङः पदान्तादति से अति की अनुवृत्ति आती है।From ‘usyapadāntāt’ the word apadāntāt is carried over, and from ‘eṅaḥ padāntād ati’ the word ati is carried over (anuvṛtti).एकः पूर्वपरयोः का अधिकार तो है ही।The governing rule (adhikāra) ‘ekaḥ pūrvaparayoḥ’ is of course in force.
अपदान्त अकार से गुण (अ, ए, ओ) के परे रहने पर पूर्व और पर के स्थान पर पररूप एक आदेश होता है।When a guṇa (a, e, o) follows a non-pada-final akāra, in place of both the prior and the following there is a single substitute in the form of the latter (pararūpa).
गुण-शब्द से अदेङ् गुणः से विहित गुणसंज्ञक वर्ण अ, ए, ओ ही लिए जायेंगे।By the word guṇa, only the letters a, e, o that bear the guṇa-saṁjñā as prescribed by ‘adeṅ guṇaḥ’ are to be taken.यह सूत्र वृद्धिरेचि, अकः सवर्णे दीर्घः आदि का अपवादसूत्र है।This sūtra is an exception (apavāda) to ‘vṛddhir eci’, ‘akaḥ savarṇe dīrghaḥ’, and the like.।.
