२४३- ह्रस्वो नपुंसके प्रातिपदिकस्य।243. hrasvo napuṁsake prātipadikasya.ह्रस्वः प्रथमान्तं, नपुंसके सप्तम्यन्तं, प्रातिपदिकस्य षष्ठ्यन्तं, त्रिपदमिदं सूत्रम्।hrasvaḥ is in the nominative (prathamā) case, napuṁsake in the locative (saptamī) case, prātipadikasya in the genitive (ṣaṣṭhī) case; this sūtra has three words.
नपुंसकलिङ्ग में अजन्त प्रातिपदिक को ह्रस्व होता है।In the neuter gender, a vowel-ending (ajanta) prātipadika becomes short (hrasva).
जहाँ पर भी ह्रस्व, दीर्घ या प्लुत का विधान किया जाता है, वहाँ पर अचश्च इस परिभाषा सूत्र से अचः यह पद आता है।Wherever a short (hrasva), long (dīrgha), or prolated (pluta) is prescribed, there the word acaḥ comes in by the paribhāṣā sūtra acaśca.इस सूत्र में भी वह पद आया और नियम किया कि अजन्त को ही ह्रस्व हो।In this sūtra too that word came, and it laid down the rule that only a vowel-ending (ajanta) becomes short.अलोऽन्त्यस्य की सहायता से अन्त्य वर्ण को ह्रस्व होता है।With the help of alo'ntyasya, the final letter becomes short.
श्रीपं ज्ञानवत्।śrīpaṁ jñānavat.श्रीप= लक्ष्मी की रक्षा करने वाला कुल।śrīpa = the family that protects Lakṣmī.विश्वपा की तरह श्रियं पातीति, श्रीपा।Like viśvapā, 'śriyaṁ pāti iti' — one who protects śrī — śrīpā.श्रीपूर्वक पा धातु है।It is the root pā preceded by śrī.उसके पुँल्लिङ्ग में विश्वपा की तरह ही रूप बनते हैं किन्तु नपुंसकलिङ्ग में ह्रस्वो नपुंसके प्रातिपदिकस्य से पा के आकार को ह्रस्व होकर श्रीप बना।In its masculine the forms are made just like viśvapā; but in the neuter, by hrasvo napuṁsake prātipadikasya the ākāra of pā becomes short, and śrīpa is formed.इस तरह श्रीपा शब्द ज्ञान की तरह अदन्त बन गया।In this way the word śrīpā became a-ending, like jñāna.अतः श्रीप के रूप भी ज्ञान की तरह श्रीपम्, श्रीपे, श्रीपाणि, श्रीपम्, श्रीपे, श्रीपाणि, श्रीपेण, श्रीपाभ्याम्, श्रीपैः आदि होते हैं।Therefore the forms of śrīpa too are, like jñāna, śrīpam, śrīpe, śrīpāṇi, śrīpam, śrīpe, śrīpāṇi, śrīpeṇa, śrīpābhyām, śrīpaiḥ, and so on.
