३२- वृद्धिरादैच्।32. vṛddhir ādaic.वृद्धिः प्रथमान्तम्, आदैच् प्रथमान्तं, द्विपदमिदं सूत्रम्।vṛddhiḥ is in the nominative (prathamā) case, ādaic is in the nominative case; this sūtra has two words.
आ और ऐच् (ऐ, औ) ये वृद्धिसंज्ञक होते हैं।ā and aic (ai, au) — these take the name vṛddhi (vṛddhi-saṁjñā).
आत्- दीर्घ आकार और ऐच्- ऐच् प्रत्याहार अर्थात् ऐ, औ इस तरह आ, ऐ, औ ये तीन वर्ण वृद्धि कहलाते हैं।āt — the long ā-kāra, and aic — the aic pratyāhāra, that is ai and au; thus these three letters ā, ai, au are called vṛddhi.जहाँ पर अन्य सूत्र वृद्धि का विधान करते हैं, वहाँ आ, ऐ, औ ये तीन आदेश के रूप में उपस्थित हो जाते हैं अर्थात् जहाँ भी वृद्धि शब्द का उच्चारण होगा,Wherever other sūtras prescribe vṛddhi, there these three — ā, ai, au — come to be present as substitutes (ādeśa); that is, wherever the word vṛddhi is pronounced,
उससे आ, ऐ, औ ही समझे जायेंगे।by it only ā, ai, au will be understood.पाणिनीय-अष्टाध्यायी का यह प्रथमसूत्र है।This is the first sūtra of the Pāṇinīya Aṣṭādhyāyī.सूत्रों में सर्वप्रथम उच्चारित शब्द 'वृद्धि' होने के कारण यह मंगलार्थक भी माना जाता है।Because the word first uttered among the sūtras is ‘vṛddhi’, it is also held to be auspicious in purpose (maṅgalārthaka).
