evam eva tu gauṇānāṁ hāsādīnām api svayam |
evam eva tuand in just this same way — tu turns now to the secondary set tu marks the shift from the primary rasas already treated to the gauṇa onesइसी प्रकार ही — परन्तु ('तु' से अब मुख्य रसों से हटकर गौण रसों की ओर बात मुड़ती है)
gauṇānāṁfor the secondary rasas genitive — the class to which the rule is now extendedगौण रसों का (जिन तक अब यह नियम बढ़ाया जाता है)
hāsādīnām apieven for hāsya and the rest of them api = 'even'; the same uparasa-treatment reaches down to the secondary rasas tooहास्य आदि का भी ('अपि' — वही उपरस-दशा इन गौण रसों तक भी पहुँचती है)
svayamin their own case, taken on their ownस्वयं ही
evam eva tu — and in just this same way; gauṇānāṁ hāsādīnām api — even for the secondary rasas, hāsya and the rest; svayam — in their own case … [continues into L2].
The uparasa (semblance-rasa) just discussed for the primary rasas holds in exactly the same way lower down. Even the secondary rasas — hāsya and the others — have their own uparasa, taken each in its own right. The 'but' turns us from the main rasas to this secondary set.
uparasa, one of the three kinds of rasābhāsa (misfiring rasa) alongside anurasa and aparasa: a real rasa that lands on an unfit or wrongly-directed object. The point here is that this defect is not confined to the great rasas — the lesser, secondary ones misfire too.
L2conclusion
vijñeyoparasatvasya manīṣibhir udāhṛtiḥ ||
vijñeyāis to be worked out, should be understood gerundive agreeing with udāhṛtiḥ (fem.)
uparasatvasyaof their being uparasa — that they too count as semblance-rasa genitive — what the illustration is an illustration of; sandhi vijñeyā + uparasatvasyaउपरसत्व का (यह उदाहरण किसका है, वह)
manīṣibhiḥby thoughtful men, by the discerning instrumental of agent with the gerundiveमनीषियों के द्वारा
udāhṛtiḥthe drawing-out of examples, the illustrationउदाहरण (उदाहृति)
uparasatvasya — of the fact that they too are uparasa; udāhṛtiḥ — the illustration; manīṣibhiḥ vijñeyā — is to be worked out by the discerning.
The discerning should supply for themselves the examples that show these secondary rasas becoming uparasa. Rūpa states the rule and leaves the illustrating to the thoughtful reader.
-tva in uparasatva is the abstract 'the state of being an uparasa'; udāhṛti is the act of giving an udāharaṇa, a worked example — here left to the reader rather than spelled out.

bhaktādibhiḥ vibhāvādyaiḥ — by the vibhāvas and the rest, namely the devotees and so on; kṛṣṇa-sambandha-varjitaiḥ — [these being] stripped of any link to Kṛṣṇa … [continues into L4].
Set up the case: the devotees and so on act as the ālambana, and with them the whole apparatus of vibhāvas and the rest. But suppose these excitants have no link to Kṛṣṇa. That missing Kṛṣṇa-connection is the hinge — it is what turns an ordinary rasa into a mere anurasa.

rasā hāsyādayaḥ sapta śāntaś cānurasā matāḥ ||
rasā hāsyādayaḥ saptathe seven rasas beginning with hāsya nominative — the subjects; 'the seven' fixes the count of the secondary rasasहास्य आदि सात रस ('सात' से गौण रसों की गिनती निश्चित होती है)
śāntaś caand śānta along with them ca adds śānta as an eighth to the sevenऔर शान्त ('च' से शान्त इन सातों में आठवें रूप में जुड़ता है)
anurasā matāḥare held to be anurasas predicate nominative; matāḥ 'are reckoned, are held' — the settled viewअनुरस माने गए हैं (यही स्थिर मत है)
hāsyādayaḥ sapta rasāḥ — the seven rasas beginning with hāsya; śāntaḥ ca — and śānta too; anurasāḥ matāḥ — are held to be anurasas.
When that Kṛṣṇa-link is missing, the seven secondary rasas — hāsya and the rest — together with śānta are reckoned not as full rasas but as anurasas, 'after-rasas', pale followers of the real thing.
The seven gauṇa (secondary) rasas: hāsya, adbhuta, vīra, karuṇa, raudra, bhayānaka, bībhatsa; śānta added makes eight. anurasa (literally 'along-rasa, after-rasa') is the second species of rasābhāsa — a secondary rasa whose excitants have no bearing on Kṛṣṇa, so it only trails behind true rasa.

hanta — ah!; kakkhaṭī — Kakkhaṭī [the she-monkey]; tāṇḍavaṁ vyadhita — performed a wild tāṇḍava.
Ah! — Kakkhaṭī threw herself into a furious tāṇḍava-dance.
An udāharaṇa of hāsya-anurasa, the after-rasa of laughter named in the lead-in 'tatra hāsyānurasaḥ—' (illustrating 4.9.33): mirth arising where the ālambana is a capering she-monkey, with nothing of Kṛṣṇa in it — so the hāsya is only an anurasa, not true rasa.

The she-monkey, screwing up her brows again and again, made the dance wilder and wilder — tumultuous, over the top.

rukṣaḥnamely the dry, sapless śāntaरूक्ष, नीरस
atra bhaktāḥ pañca-vidhāḥ — here 'devotees' are of five kinds; śāntaḥ tu — but the śānta [intended is] the rukṣaḥ — the dry one; rasa-śāstrāntara-prasiddhaḥ — well known from the other rasa-treatises.
Two clarifications from Jīva. First, 'devotees' in the verse means the five classes of devotee. Second, the śānta named here is not our devotional śānta at all — it is the 'dry' śānta known from the ordinary rasa-manuals, quietude with no Kṛṣṇa-love in it.
The five kinds of devotee track the five primary relationships — śānta, dāsya, sakhya, vātsalya, mādhurya. The 'dry' (rukṣa) śānta is the śānta of general poetics (Bharata's tradition), mere detachment or quietism; lacking rati for Kṛṣṇa, it stays sapless, hence an anurasa rather than the rasika śānta of bhakti.

The five kinds of devotee follow the five relationships — śānta, dāsya, sakhya, vātsalya, mādhurya. rukṣa ('dry') śānta is the detachment-śānta of general poetics, without Kṛṣṇa-rati; Viśvanātha's eva presses that only this sapless variety is meant.

Viśvanātha walks the verse word by word. markaṭī is glossed as the she-monkey Kakkhaṭī; uddhura as utkaṭa, violent and overpowering; that is the tāṇḍava she danced. By that dance came the ḍambara of laughter — he reads ḍambara as autkaṭya, laughter at full swaggering pitch. karambita in the compound he unpacks as yukta, 'joined, smeared': the cowherds whose faces were smeared with that laughter. And vallava-kadambaka he glosses as gopa-samūha, the crowd of cowherds — such a crowd shone.
