Here is the reason the verse had to relocate the fault. The sthāyi-bhāva, rati itself, by its own nature can never be deformed. So the deformity cannot really be its own — it must be the object's, transferred over.

Jīva gives the first type a concrete case: the yajña-patnīs, the wives of the sacrificing brāhmaṇas, who loved Kṛṣṇa though he did not court them in return. Here the deformity sits only in the body — because their bodies were brāhmaṇa-bodies, already given over to their brāhmaṇa husbands. The hearts were pure; the bodies were bound.

The yajña-patnī episode (Bhāgavata 10.23): the wives of brāhmaṇas absorbed in sacrifice ran to Kṛṣṇa in love. brāhmaṇa-dehatvāt — because the body belonged to another (the husband), the flaw is bodily, not of the heart.
