manda-smitaṁ prakṛti-siddham api vyudantaṁ

vyudantaṁhe threw off, put away (cast it far from his face) vy-ud-√as; Viśvanātha reads vyudastaṁ = dūrīkṛtaṁदूर हटा दिया — (विश्वनाथ 'व्युदस्तम्' पढ़ते हैं, अर्थात् दूरीकृत)
manda-smitaṁ — his gentle smile; prakṛti-siddham api — natural to him though it is; vyudantaṁ — [Kṛṣṇa] cast it away.
His gentle smile comes to him on its own — it is simply his nature. Yet here he threw it off, pushed it away from his face.
An udāharaṇa quoted from Lalita-mādhava 9.37 into laharī 9 (rasābhāsa, the misfiring of rasa). The lead-in 'tatra ekatra ratir' marks it as an example of rati that runs one way only — love present in one party (the brāhmaṇa wives) but not answered from the other side (Kṛṣṇa) — hence a semblance of madhura-rasa rather than the real thing.

dṛśoḥ taraṅgaḥ — the wave of his glancing; sahajaḥ api — spontaneous though it is; saṅgopitaḥ ca — and he hid it away too.
The wave that runs across his eyes — his easy, flirting glance — is just as natural to him. That too he concealed, held back out of sight.
The smile (L1) and the glance (L2) are Kṛṣṇa's two natural instruments of charm; he shuts down both, because to let them play would be to fan a love he must not encourage — the mark of a rasābhāsa.

dvija-vadhū-madanārti-vahnau — the fire that is the brāhmaṇa wives' love-torment; dhūmāyite — once it began to smoulder.
The brāhmaṇa wives' pang of desire is a fire. Just as that fire started to smoke — the first sign it might blaze — Kṛṣṇa acted.
dvija-vadhū are the wives of the sacrificing brāhmaṇas (the yajña-patnīs); their desire for Kṛṣṇa is the very love that the verse frames as a semblance.

ahnāya — at once; kāpi gatiḥ — some indescribable turn; aṅkuritā ayāsīt — sprouted up and arose.
And at once some indescribable turn sprouted up in him — a movement of mind you cannot quite name. Rather than answer the wives' desire, he pulls back into it.
The 'nameless turn' is the point of the udāharaṇa: instead of the smile and glance that would meet a lover, Kṛṣṇa slips into an unnamable inward course — the sign that this love finds no return, and so stays a semblance of rasa.

Viśvanātha fixes each word. The 'brāhmaṇa wives' are the wives of the sacrificing brāhmaṇas. Their desire is a fire; as it neared blazing and started to smoke, Kṛṣṇa cast off his smile — natural to him though it is — putting it far away. And so, at once, some indescribable turn arose in Kṛṣṇa's mind — a movement that leaned toward calm. He names the nameless 'turn': it bends away from desire and toward peace, precisely so as not to feed a love he will not return.
Viśvanātha reads the verse's ayāsīt as āsīt, 'came to be'.
