The lead-in yathā vā ('or, as in…') flags this as an udāharaṇa — an illustrative verse in a character's voice, quoted from Rūpa's own play Vidagdha-mādhava (2.31), spoken here by a friend (sakhā). The verse turns on bībhatsa (disgust), named in its closing word śuci-bībhatsa (L5): once the speaker has seen Rādhā's face and eyes, the moon and the lotus — the very things once praised as their match — breed a refined loathing in him.

In both cases it is śuci-bībhatsa, a 'pure' disgust. Not revulsion at something filthy, but a refined loathing directed at pure, lovely things — the bright moon, the fresh blue lotus — now found wanting.
bībhatsa is the rasa (mood) of disgust; śuci ('pure, clean') marks that here the disgust falls not on the foul but on spotless, beautiful objects. This closing term is what the udāharaṇa is chosen to illustrate.

asmākam ity asyaika-kartuḥ — since 'us' is the single agent; smāraṁ smāram iti hṛṇīya iti dvayam api — of both 'smāraṁ smāram' and 'hṛṇīya'; asmin kriyā-dvaye ca — and in this pair of actions; smṛti-kriyāyāḥ pūrvatvāt — because recalling is the earlier act; ṇamul yujyate eva — the ṇamul form is exactly right
Jīva defends the odd form smāram. An absolutive (ṇamul) is licensed only when one agent performs two acts and this act comes first. Both conditions hold here: 'us' is the single agent of both the recalling and the loathing, and the recalling precedes the loathing. So smāraṁ smāram — doubled to mean 'again and again' — is grammatically in order.
ṇamul: a Pāṇinian term for the absolutive in -am (Aṣṭādhyāyī 3.4.22, ābhīkṣṇye ṇamul ca), which reduplicates (smāraṁ smāram) to express repeated action; like every absolutive it needs one shared agent and a prior act.

Viśvanātha spells the verse out. 'Her' is Rādhā; kānta-dyuti is 'a lovely glow'; indīvara is the blue lotus; hṛṇīyā is ghṛṇā, disgust. Once my gaze settled on Rādhā's glowing face and charming eyes, then, each time I recall the moon and the blue lotus, a disgust arises that curls my face.

Viśvanātha now distributes the two disgusts. Seeing her face breeds the disgust for the moon; seeing her eyes breeds the disgust for the blue lotus. Read one object to each — that is what 'in both cases' (ubhayatra) means.

Viśvanātha then hands on the reading of the Vidagdha-mādhava commentary. It parses kānta-dyuti as a bahuvrīhi — 'the face whose glow is her lovely glow' — and says the word kānta is there to flag the face's resemblance to the moon. It also glosses hṛṇīyā two ways, either lajjā (shame) or ghṛṇā (disgust). So, recalling the moon, a face-curling shame-or-disgust arises.
This differs from s1 on two points: kānta-dyuti is taken as a bahuvrīhi rather than a tatpuruṣa 'lovely glow', and hṛṇīyā gets a second sense, lajjā (shame), beside ghṛṇā. The lajjā/ghṛṇā option is left open (vā) — both stand. The source of this reading is named in s5.
