An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) for laharī 8 (maitrī-vaira-sthiti), showing the maitrī — the easy friendship — between preyo-rasa (sakhya, the mood of a friend) and vatsala-rasa (parental love). L3 tags the pairing outright: preyasaḥ vatsalena. One and the same speaker carries both moods without any friction: here he calls Kṛṣṇa 'friend' and asks for an equal's embrace (preyas), and in L2 he smells Kṛṣṇa's head the way an elder fondly breathes in a child's crown (vatsala) — an older comrade whose friendship is tinged with a parent's tenderness.
