Viśvanātha spells the scene out. The friend's words are: "While I stand here, terrifying in prowess through my strength, do not you suffer defeat in the battle." Roused by that speech, that army-chief let out his war-cry — roaring so that the sound came out virūpa, that is, frightful (ghora) — and went to Hari for the sake of the fight. The sense, he says, is that he went over to Hari's side.
'जब मैं बल के कारण भयंकर पराक्रम वाला हूँ, तब तू युद्ध में पराजय मत प्राप्त कर' — मित्र की इस वाणी से वह सेनापति, जिस प्रकार शब्द घोर हो उसी प्रकार भयंकर गर्जना करता हुआ, युद्ध के लिए हरि के पास गया; अर्थात् वह हरि के पक्ष में सम्मिलित हो गया — यही तात्पर्य है।
