balasya balino balāt suhṛd-anīkam āloḍayan
balasya balinaḥof mighty Bala (Balarāma) two genitives together — 'of Bala the powerful'; Viśvanātha reads balin as Baladevaबलवान् बल का, अर्थात् बलदेव का — दो षष्ठियाँ मिलकर 'बलवान् बल के'
suhṛd-anīkamthe army of [Balarāma's] allies — the thing he churnsमित्ररूप सेना को (कर्म)
balātby sheer force ablative of mannerबलपूर्वक, बल से
balasya balinaḥ — of mighty Bala (Balarāma); suhṛd-anīkam — the army of his allies; balāt — by force; āloḍayan — churning.
Bhadrasena churns the army of mighty Balarāma's allies. And he churns it by sheer force.
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) of vīra-bhakti-rasa, the rasa of heroism (Uttara-vibhāga, laharī 3): the devotee Bhadrasena, fighting on Kṛṣṇa's side in a play-battle, single-handedly routs Balarāma's team and so becomes the cause of Kṛṣṇa's delight (see L4).

payodhim ivajust as [Mandara churns] the ocean iva sets up the simile; payodhi is the object of the implied churningजैसे समुद्र को (मथता है) — 'इव' से उपमा; पयोधि मन्थन का कर्म है
kṛta-mukunda-pakṣa-grahaḥhe who has taken Mukunda's side śleṣa on pakṣa-graha: 'taking the party/side' and 'taking hold of a wing'जिसने मुकुन्द (कृष्ण) का पक्ष ग्रहण किया है — 'पक्ष' में श्लेष: 'दल, ओर' और 'पंख' दोनों
mandaraḥ payodhim iva — just as Mount Mandara [churns] the ocean; kṛta-mukunda-pakṣa-grahaḥ — [Bhadrasena,] having taken Mukunda's side.
Just the way Mount Mandara churns the ocean. He has taken Mukunda's side and fights for it.
śleṣa on pakṣa: it means both 'party, side' (he joins Kṛṣṇa's team) and 'wing' — the churning image carries the double sense. The Mandara/ocean simile recalls the churning of the milk-ocean.

ekādākinic cāsahāye iti pāṇini-sūtrāt kan |
ekādākinic cāsahāye iti'after eka [come the affixes] ākinic and — by the ca — kan, in the sense of 'without a companion'' — thus [the rule] quoted Pāṇini sūtra; the ca folds in the second affix (kan) beside ākinic'एका-दाकिनिच् च असहाये' — यह (पाणिनि-सूत्र); 'च' से 'आकिनिच्' के साथ दूसरा प्रत्यय ('कन्') भी समाविष्ट होता है
pāṇini-sūtrāton the strength of this Pāṇini sūtra ablative = grounding the form in the ruleपाणिनि-सूत्र के अनुसार (पंचमी — रूप की सिद्धि इस नियम पर आधारित)
kan[comes] the affix kan — which yields ekaka'कन्' प्रत्यय (जिससे 'एकक' बना)
"ekād ākinic ca asahāye" iti pāṇini-sūtrāt — on the strength of the Pāṇini sūtra '...'; kan — the affix kan [is added, giving ekaka].
Jīva grounds the form in grammar. Pāṇini's rule says: after eka, in the sense 'without a companion,' come the affixes ākinic and — through the word ca — kan. The affix ākinic gives ekākin (ekākī); the affix kan gives ekaka. So ekaka is a properly derived word.
Why cited: cited to justify the form ekaka grammatically — the affix kan added to eka in the sense 'without a companion.'

"ekākī tv eka ekaka" iti amaraḥ — Amara [lists] 'ekākin, eka, ekaka' [as synonyms].
And the Amara-koṣa lists 'ekākin, eka, ekaka' together — all meaning 'alone.' So ekaka is a settled, recognized word.
Why cited: cited from the Amara-koṣa to show ekaka is an accepted synonym for 'alone' (ekākin).

ekala iti lekhaka-pramādāt ||
lekhaka-pramādātis [only] from a copyist's blunder ablative of causeलिपिकार के प्रमाद के कारण (पंचमी)
ekala iti — the reading 'ekala'; lekhaka-pramādāt — arises from a scribe's error.
As for the variant 'ekala,' Jīva rejects it: that is just a copyist's slip. The correct reading is ekaka.
A text-critical verdict: Jīva sets aside the variant ekala as a scribal error and defends ekaka, which he has just derived grammatically and backed from the Amara-koṣa.

Viśvanātha spells out the picture. 'Powerful Bala' is Baladeva (Balarāma); the 'army of allies' is his fighting force, his senā. Bhadrasena churns it by force — exactly the way Mount Mandara churns the ocean.

samiti — yuddhe, 'in battle'; ekakaḥ — ekākī, 'alone'; "ekākī tv eka ekaka" iti amaraḥ — Amara lists these as synonyms.
Viśvanātha glosses two words. samiti means 'in battle,' and ekaka means 'alone' — and, like Jīva, he backs the synonym with the Amara-koṣa's line 'ekākin, eka, ekaka.'
