An udāharaṇa of adbhuta-bhakti-rasa (the rasa of wonder) aroused by what is heard (śruta) — the section's lead-in is 'śrutaṁ, yathā—', 'what is heard, as in—'. The wonder-response comes in L4; here L1–L2 set up the marvelous deed that occasions it.

akṣauhiṇī — a full army-division of the old military reckoning (chariots, elephants, cavalry, and foot in fixed proportion, over 200,000 combatants). 'Eleven akṣauhiṇīs' names the whole host Kṛṣṇa faced when he slew Narakāsura.
