L1definition
tac cāvahasitaṁ phulla-nāsaṁ kuñcita-locanam ||
tat caand this next one [in the list of laughters] is ca carries the enumeration forward to the fourth kind of hāsaऔर वह (हास का चौथा भेद)
avahasitamavahasita, the derisive, mocking laughअवहसित (कहलाता है)
phulla-nāsamthe one with the nostrils flared open (phulla, "blossomed")जिसमें नासिका फूल जाती है (फूली नासिकावाला)
kuñcita-locanamand the eyes screwed up narrow (kuñcita, "pinched shut")और जिसके नेत्र सिकुड़ जाते हैं (सिकुड़े नेत्रवाला)
tat ca — and this one is; avahasitam — avahasita; phulla-nāsam — with flared nostrils; kuñcita-locanam — and narrowed eyes.
The next kind of laughter is avahasita, the derisive laugh. You spot it by two signs: the nostrils flare wide open and the eyes screw up narrow.
avahasita is the fourth of the six grades of hāsa (smita, hasita, vihasita, avahasita, apahasita, atihasita). Its two marks, flared nostrils and narrowed eyes, are what the coming example verse will show in action.

dhātu-rāgaḥ ghanaḥ — the thick red mineral dye; te dṛśoḥ yuge api — onto your very pair of eyes; nitarām lagnaḥ kim — has it stuck fast, right into them?
"Has this thick red mineral dye stuck fast, right into both your eyes?" Yaśodā innocently calls it dhātu-rāga, red ochre. Viśvanātha tells us it is really the betel-red rubbed off from Rādhā's lips during the night's play.
An udāharaṇa of avahasita, the derisive laugh defined in the previous line (4.1.22) by flared nostrils and narrowed eyes. Yaśodā is speaking to the young Kṛṣṇa; the go-between (dūtī) who overhears her is the one whose laugh will illustrate the lakṣaṇa.

"And so early too, my son — or is that Balarāma's black cloth you've thrown over yourself?" Viśvanātha explains it is really Rādhā's dark upper-cloth, which Kṛṣṇa had pulled on by mistake in the dark.

vrajeśa-gṛhiṇī-vācam — the words of the queen of Vraja; puraḥ — right there before her; iti ākarṇya — hearing [them] said thus; sphurat-nāsikā — [the messenger,] her nostrils twitching.
Hearing the queen of Vraja say all this, right there in front of her, the go-between's nostrils began to twitch.
sphurat-nāsikā (twitching nostrils) reproduces phulla-nāsam from the lakṣaṇa (4.1.22) — the verse is deliberately staging the very sign it defined.

dūtī — the go-between; saṅkucat-īkṣaṇa-avahasitam — the narrow-eyed derisive laugh; roddhum na kṣamā jātā — became unable to hold back.
And the go-between simply could not hold back the derisive laugh — eyes screwing shut, exactly the avahasita just defined.
saṅkucat-īkṣaṇa (shrinking eyes) reproduces kuñcita-locanam from the lakṣaṇa; together with L4's twitching nostrils, the example verse enacts both marks of avahasita in the dūtī's face.

Jīva records two variant readings (pāṭhāntara). For "putra" (son) one may read "mitra" (friend), and for "vrajeśa-gṛhiṇī-vācam" (the words of the queen of Vraja) one may read "dhṛtārjava-suhṛd-vācam" (the words of a sincere friend). On this second set of readings the speaker is a friend rather than the mother Yaśodā.
A pāṭhāntara is a variant found in the manuscript tradition, not a second interpretation of one fixed text; Jīva records it and leaves it standing.

Viśvanātha sets the whole scene. From the night's play with Rādhā, her betel-red had rubbed onto Kṛṣṇa's eyes, and in the dark he had mistakenly pulled on Rādhā's dark shawl. Seeing both, Yaśodā asks him: "O son! Has thick red ochre stuck to your eyes? And did you hurriedly throw on Balarāma's black cloth?" [At this the go-between could not keep from laughing.] Along the way Viśvanātha glosses the hard words: ghana = niviḍa (dense), dhātu-rāga = gairika (red ochre), asita = śyāma (dark), kṣamā = samarthā (able). The comedy is the dramatic irony: Yaśodā names the lovers' telltale marks as harmless ochre and Balarāma's cloth.
