kva me putro nīpāḥ kathayata kuraṅgāḥ kim iha vaḥ
kvawhere is he?कहाँ है
me putraḥmy sonमेरा पुत्र — बोलनेवाली माता है, इसलिए 'मेरा'
nīpāḥO nīpa trees vocative; Viśvanātha glosses nīpa as kadambaहे नीप वृक्षो! — विश्वनाथ 'नीप' का अर्थ कदम्ब करते हैं
kathayatatell me! plural imperative — she is ordering the trees to speakतुम सब कहो — वृक्षों को ही आज्ञा दी जा रही है
kuraṅgāḥO deerहे हरिणो!
kimdid he…? opens a yes-or-no question whose verb comes in the next line (babhrāma)क्या — यह प्रश्न आगे की पंक्ति की क्रिया (बभ्राम) तक लटका रहता है
ihahere, in this spotयहाँ, इस स्थान पर
vaḥnear you genitive vaḥ, 'of you'; Viśvanātha takes it with abhyarṇe in the next line — 'close to you'तुम्हारा — विश्वनाथ इसे अगली पंक्ति के 'अभ्यर्णे' से जोड़ते हैं, अर्थात् 'तुम्हारे निकट'
nīpāḥ — O nīpa trees; kva — where is; me putraḥ — my son; kathayata — tell me!; kuraṅgāḥ — O deer; kim — did he; iha — here; vaḥ (abhyarṇe) — near you
kva — कहाँ है; me putraḥ — मेरा पुत्र; nīpāḥ — हे नीप (कदम्ब) वृक्षो; kathayata — तुम सब कहो; kuraṅgāḥ — हे हरिणो; kim — क्या; iha — यहाँ; vaḥ — तुम्हारे (निकट)
"Where is my son? O kadamba trees, tell me! O deer — was he here, close to you?"
"मेरा पुत्र कहाँ है? हे कदम्ब वृक्षो, तुम्हीं बताओ! हे हरिणो, क्या वह यहाँ तुम्हारे पास…" — प्रश्न अधूरा है; उसकी क्रिया अगली पंक्ति में आती है।
An udāharaṇa of unmāda, 'madness', the state named in the lead-in (unmādaḥ) — here as it appears in vatsala-bhakti-rasa, the rasa of parental love. The mark of unmāda is speaking to trees, deer and bees as if they could answer.

Jīva sets the occasion. Word reached her that he had suddenly fled from Mathurā. Hearing that, she speaks this verse. So the searching is not idle grief — she has just been told he is on the move, and she goes looking.
जीव गोस्वामी अवतरणिका देते हैं। मथुरा से कृष्ण के अकस्मात् चले जाने का समाचार सुनकर यशोदा ने यह वचन कहा — 'क्व मे पुत्रः' इत्यादि।

Viśvanātha walks through the address words. The nīpas are kadamba trees. vaḥ abhyarṇe means "near you". The unnamed "he" is Śrī Kṛṣṇa. "That news" is news of Śrī Kṛṣṇa. And madhukara means bee: O bees, speak.
विश्वनाथ पद-पद खोलते हैं। 'नीप' अर्थात् कदम्ब वृक्ष। 'वः' का अर्थ है 'तुम लोगों के', और 'अभ्यर्णे' का अर्थ है 'निकट में' — अतः 'तुम्हारे निकट'। 'सः' से श्रीकृष्ण अभिप्रेत हैं। भाव यह हुआ — हे भौंरो, उन श्रीकृष्ण का समाचार तुम मुझे कहो।
