cumbāśleṣau tathāhvānaṁ nāma-grahaṇa-pūrvakam |
cumba-āśleṣaukissing him and hugging him — these two dual: two items, cumba + āśleṣa, opening the listचुम्बन और आलिंगन — ये दो (द्विवचन, इसलिए गिनकर दो ही), जिनसे सूची आरम्भ होती है
āhvānamcalling out to himपुकारना, बुलाना
nāma-grahaṇa-pūrvakamcalling him by first taking his name -pūrvakam here works adverbially on āhvānam: 'with name-taking going first'नाम लेकर, अर्थात् पहले नाम उच्चारण करके — यह 'पुकारने' के ढंग को बताता है
cumba-āśleṣau — kissing him and hugging him; tathā — and likewise; nāma-grahaṇa-pūrvakam āhvānam — calling out to him by name
Kissing him. Hugging him. And calling out to him — first speaking his name, then calling. These are the outward acts of the parental mood.
The unit's lead-in question is na katame — 'and which ones are not [special to this rasa]?' This verse and the next line answer it: these acts are real anubhāvas of vātsalya, but they are not its own private property.

mitraiḥwith the friends — that is, they occur in sakhya-rasa too instrumental going with sādhāraṇāḥ: 'held in common WITH…'
sādhāraṇāḥare shared, not exclusive to this rasaसाधारण हैं, अर्थात् साझी हैं — केवल इसी रस की नहीं
kriyāḥthese actsचेष्टाएँ, क्रियाएँ
atra — here in vatsala-rasa; upālambha-ādayaḥ ca — scolding him and the rest as well; kriyāḥ — these acts; mitraiḥ — with the friends; sādhāraṇāḥ — are held in common
Add scolding him, and other acts like it. Now the point: here in the parental mood, all these acts are shared. The friends do them too. So kissing, hugging, calling by name, scolding — none of them belongs to vātsalya alone.
sādhāraṇa is the technical opposite of asādhāraṇa. An asādhāraṇa anubhāva marks off one rasa by itself; a sādhāraṇa one is genuine but shows up in more than one rasa, so it cannot be used to identify vātsalya.

tethose familiar ones — the standard set already taught te points back to the eight sāttvikas defined earlier; with nava it makes the count 8 + 1वे ही — जो पहले बताए जा चुके हैं (पहले के आठ, और 'नव' के साथ मिलकर गिनती आठ + एक हो जाती है)
atra — here in vatsala-rasa; sāttvikāḥ — the sāttvika-bhāvas; nava — are nine; te — namely those familiar ones: stanya-srāvaḥ — milk flowing from the breast; stambha-ādayaḥ ca — and going stunned and the rest
Now the sāttvika signs. Here they come to nine, not eight. The extra one is milk flowing from the mother's breast. Then the usual list — going stunned and the others. The verse's own arithmetic makes the point: this rasa has one bodily sign no other rasa has.
The lead-in to this line is atha sāttvikāḥ, 'now the sāttvika signs'. The standard count is eight — stambha, sveda, romāñca, svara-bheda, vepathu, vaivarṇya, aśru, pralaya. Saying nava here adds stanya-srāva to that eight, and that is the one anubhāva of the parental mood that line 2 could not call sādhāraṇa.
