L1definition
ghrāṇasya śikhare muktā nava-nītaṁ karāmbuje |
ghrāṇasya śikhareon the tip of his nose ghrāṇasya is a plain genitive depending on śikhare — 'the tip of the nose', not 'by smell'नासिका की नोक पर — 'घ्राण' यहाँ षष्ठी में 'शिखर' का सम्बन्धी है, इसलिए अर्थ 'नाक का अग्रभाग' है, 'सूँघने से' नहीं
nava-nītaṁand fresh butter is held nava-nīta, literally 'newly churned', the soft butter just lifted off the buttermilkताजा मक्खन — अभी-अभी मथकर छाछ के ऊपर से उठाया हुआ कोमल नवनीत
karāmbujein his lotus-like little handकर-कमल में — बालक की कमल-सी हथेली में
ghrāṇasya śikhare — on the tip of his nose; muktā — a pearl; karāmbuje — in his lotus hand; nava-nītaṁ — fresh butter
Now the things Kṛṣṇa is decked out with. A pearl on the tip of his nose. Fresh butter in his lotus-soft hand.
This continues the vatsala-rasa uddīpanas: not the child's own body now, but what is put on him and put in his hand. The butter is the odd item in the list, and the commentary will take it up.

kiṅkiṇy-ādia little belt of tinkling bells and things of that sort kiṅkiṇī-ādi keeps the list open — the bells are only the first named itemघुँघरू आदि — 'आदि' कहकर सूची खुली रख दी गई; घुँघरू तो केवल पहला नाम है

kiṅkiṇy-ādi ca — and a bell-belt and the like; kaṭyādau — on the waist and so on; iha — here; prasādhanam — as the prasādhana; uditam — has been stated
And a jingling bell-belt and such things at his waist and elsewhere. That is what is meant by prasādhana here — the way the child is decked out. Two open lists, 'bells and the like' and 'waist and so on', so the teacher can fill in the rest.
prasādhana is kept in IAST because it is the technical name of this uddīpana-item: the ornamenting of the child, distinct from his body (vayaḥ, rūpa) and his behaviour (cāpala, jalpita).

Now the illustration. There he is, his little gold bells all jingling as he moves.
An udāharaṇa of the prasādhana just defined in 3.4.27 — the lead-in is only yathā, 'as for instance'. The four lines take the three items of the verse in turn: bells here, the nose-pearl in the next line, the butter in the third.

ujjvala-nāsikāgram uktamand the pearl on his bright nose-tip the akṣaras also allow the printed split ujjvala-nāsikāgram uktam, 'his shining nose-tip, [so] described'; but read as ujjvala-nāsikāgra-muktam it is another bahuvrīhi with tanayam and picks up the muktā of 3.4.27 exactlyअक्षरों को इस तरह भी तोड़ा जा सकता है — 'उज्ज्वल-नासिकाग्रम् उक्तम्', अर्थात् 'उसका चमकता नाक का अग्रभाग, ऐसा कहा गया'; और यदि 'उज्ज्वल-नासिकाग्र-मुक्तम्' पढ़ें तो यह भी 'तनयम्' का बहुव्रीहि विशेषण होगा — 'जिसकी उज्ज्वल नासिका के अग्र पर मोती है' — और ३.४.
smita-mukham — smiling-faced; ujjvala-nāsikāgra-muktam — with the pearl on his shining nose-tip
His face is smiling. On the bright tip of his nose sits the pearl. That is the second item of the verse, now shown in life.
Sandhi leaves two cuts here. Taken as -agra-muktam, the line supplies the pearl and matches ghrāṇasya śikhare muktā above; taken as -agram uktam it would only say 'so his shining nose-tip is described'. Worth naming aloud rather than smoothing over.

agreright there in front of herसामने, आँखों के आगे
kara-dhṛta-navanīta-piṇḍam [tanayam] — the boy holding a ball of fresh butter in his hand; agre — in front of her
In his hand a lump of fresh butter. And he is standing right in front of her.
agre does the work of the scene: the child is not being remembered, he is there before her eyes — which is what makes the next line's looking, and the joy, immediate.

nanda-patnī — Nanda's wife; agre tanayam avekṣya — looking at her son in front of her; nananda — rejoiced
Nanda's wife looked at her son — bells ringing, pearl on his nose, butter in his fist — and she was flooded with joy. The whole verse is one sentence: everything before this line describes the boy she is looking at.
Hear the sound-play: nananda nanda-patnī. The verb of joy, nananda, and the name Nanda are the same syllables, so the line says her joy and her husband's name in one breath. She is not named here, only described as Nanda's wife, and the decode keeps it that way.

evaonly — that is the whole point: it is not always there, the way the pearl and the bells areही — निश्चय ही इतना ही
navanītaṁ — the fresh butter; kādācitkam eva — is merely occasional
The commentators pick out the odd item. Butter is not something Kṛṣṇa always has on him. It comes and goes.
The sentence looks like a bare remark but it is setting up a difficulty: prasādhana normally means standing ornament, so how does an occasional handful of butter get onto the list? The next sentence answers.

tac ca śobhākaratvāt prasādhana-nirviśeṣaḥ ||
tac caand that butter, occasional though it isऔर वह (मक्खन)
śobhākaratvātbecause it makes him beautiful ablative of reason from śobhā-kara-tva, 'being beauty-making' — this is the whole argument in one wordक्योंकि वह शोभा उत्पन्न करता है — 'शोभा-कर-त्व' से पंचमी हेतु में; सारा तर्क इसी एक पद में है
prasādhana-nirviśeṣaḥcounts as no different from an ornament nirviśeṣa with the thing it is not different from in the first member; the masculine ending sits oddly with the neuter tat, so some will read prasādhana-nirviśeṣamप्रसाधन से अभिन्न है — 'निर्विशेष' के पहले पद में वही रखा जाता है जिससे भेद नहीं; यहाँ पुल्लिंग अन्त नपुंसक 'तत्' के साथ खटकता है, इसलिए कोई-कोई 'प्रसाधन-निर्विशेषम्' भी पढ़ेंगे
tat ca — and that; śobhākaratvāt — because it produces beauty; prasādhana-nirviśeṣaḥ — is not different from an adornment
Still, it counts. The test for prasādhana is not permanence but beauty. The butter makes him lovely to look at, so it is as good as an ornament. That is why Rūpa Gosvāmī could list it beside the pearl and the bells.
The working definition to hand a class: whatever adds śobhā to the child functions as prasādhana here, whether it is fastened on him or only in his fist for a moment.
