atha yoge siddhir, yathā—

pāṇḍavaḥ puṇḍarīkākṣaṁ prekṣya cakri-niketane |
pāṇḍavaḥthe Pāṇḍava is the one acting hereपाण्डव (पाण्डु का पुत्र, अर्जुन)
puṇḍarīkākṣaṁthe lotus-eyed one is the one he lays eyes on accusative — the object of prekṣyaकमल-जैसे नेत्रों वाले को (देखकर का कर्म)
prekṣyathe moment he caught sight of him gerund — the seeing happens first, and everything in the second line follows from itदेखकर (पहले देखना होता है, और दूसरी पंक्ति का सब कुछ उसी से चलता है)
cakri-niketanein the house of the cakrī, the man with the wheel locative of place; cakrī is where the śleṣa sits — a 'wheel-man' can be the disc-bearing Kṛṣṇa or a potter at his wheel, and the commentators take the secondचक्री के घर में (चक्री यहाँ श्लिष्ट है — चक्रधारी कृष्ण अथवा चाक पर बैठा कुम्हार)
pāṇḍavaḥ — the Pāṇḍava; cakri-niketane — in the house of the wheel-man; puṇḍarīkākṣam — the lotus-eyed one; prekṣya — on catching sight of him.
The Pāṇḍava caught sight of the lotus-eyed one in the house of the cakrī, the man with the wheel.
The lead-in reads atha yoge siddhiḥ, yathā — 'now, siddhi within yoga (meeting); as follows.' So this verse is offered as the illustration of siddhi, the first form of meeting.

citrākāraṁ bhajann eva mitrākāram adarśayat ||
citrākāraṁthe look of a picture accusative — what he takes on with bhajan; citra is 'a painting', so the look meant is a painted figure's stillnessचित्र-जैसे रूप को (चित्र = चित्रित प्रतिमा, अतः चित्र में खिंचे रूप की-सी स्तब्धता)
bhajannwearing it, taking it on present participle — this is going on at the same time as the showingधारण करते हुए (यह दिखाने के साथ-साथ ही चल रहा है)
evaand by that very fact, nothing more neededही
mitrākāramthe look of a friendमित्र-जैसे रूप को
adarśayathe displayed, he put on showदिखा दिया
citrākāram — the look of a picture; bhajan eva — by the very act of wearing it; mitrākāram — the look of a friend; adarśayat — he displayed.
He went as still as a painted figure. And by that very stillness he displayed the look of a friend.
The line turns on the echo citra-ākāra / mitra-ākāra — one syllable apart, and the whole point of the verse: the picture-look IS the friend-look. Both commentators read ākāra twice over, in two different senses.

pāṇḍavo’rjunaḥ sakhye mukhyatvāt cakrī drupada-nagara-kulālaḥ |
pāṇḍavo 'rjunaḥ'the Pāṇḍava' here means Arjunaपाण्डव अर्थात् अर्जुन
sakhye mukhyatvātbecause in sakhya, friendship, he is the foremost one ablative of reason, answering 'why Arjuna and not another Pāṇḍava?'; the locative sakhye marks the field in which he ranks firstक्योंकि सख्य में वही मुख्य है ('कौन-सा पाण्डव, और क्यों?'
cakrī drupada-nagara-kulālaḥand 'the cakrī' is the potter of Drupada's cityचक्री अर्थात् द्रुपद-नगर का कुलाल (कुम्हार)
pāṇḍavaḥ — the Pāṇḍava; arjunaḥ — is Arjuna; sakhye mukhyatvāt — because he is foremost in friendship; cakrī — the cakrī; drupada-nagara-kulālaḥ — is the potter of Drupada's city.
'The Pāṇḍava' means Arjuna. Why Arjuna? Because among them he is the first in friendship. And 'the cakrī' is not the disc-bearer — it is the potter of Drupada's city.
cakrī, 'the one with the cakra', is a standing name for Kṛṣṇa, who holds the disc. Jīva turns the word the other way: a cakra is also a potter's wheel, so the cakrī is a kulāla, a potter. The verse's own śleṣa is left standing — the reader hears Kṛṣṇa's name in the very word that names the house he is seen in.

tathaiva bhārata-vyākhyānāt |
tathā evathat is exactly how it goesवैसा ही / उसी प्रकार
bhārata-vyākhyānātbecause the Bhārata tells the story that way ablative of reason — the authority for the reading, not a new claimक्योंकि भारत (महाभारत) का व्याख्यान भी यही कहता है (प्रमाण, नया दावा नहीं)
tathā eva — just so; bhārata-vyākhyānāt — because that is how the Bhārata narrates it.
And that is exactly how the Bhārata tells it. So the potter's house is not a guess — it is what the narrative says.
Why cited: Adduced as the authority for reading cakrī as the potter rather than the disc-bearer: the Bhārata's own account places the meeting in a potter's house in Drupada's city.

citrasyākāram ākṛtiṁ tat-tulyatāṁ mitra-yogyam ākāram iṅgitaṁ ||
citrasya ākāram'a picture's ākāra' — taking the verse's citrākāram apartचित्र का आकार
tat-tulyatāṁthat is, being just like one a second gloss narrowing the first — not the picture's shape, but sameness with itपहली व्याख्या को सीमित करती दूसरी व्याख्या — चित्र का रूप नहीं, बल्कि उसके साथ तुल्यता (समानता)
mitra-yogyam ākāramand 'a friend's ākāra' is the bearing that fits a friendमित्र के योग्य आकार
iṅgitaṁnamely a gesture, a sign given offअर्थात् इंगित (भाव प्रकट करने वाला संकेत)
citrasya ākāram — the picture's ākāra; ākṛtim — is its shape; tat-tulyatām — that is, likeness to it; mitra-yogyam ākāram — the ākāra fitting a friend; iṅgitam — is a gesture.
Take the compound apart. 'Picture-ākāra' means shape — being just like a picture. 'Friend-ākāra' means the bearing that suits a friend, that is, a gesture.
ākāra is glossed twice, and differently each time: with citra it is ākṛti, plain outward shape; with mitra it is iṅgita, an expressive sign. iṅgita is the word for the small involuntary movement that gives a person's feeling away. So the same word in the verse names, first, a body gone shapely and still, and second, that stillness read as a signal.

Viśvanātha names the Bhāgavata as the narrative he is leaning on, and says kumbhakāra where Jīva says kulāla; the two words both mean 'potter'. The naming of the source is left as each commentator gives it.

'Picture-ākāra' means looking exactly like a picture. 'Friend-ākāra' means the gesture that fits a friend. Now put the two together. A man is cut off from his friend for a long time. He sees him again — and he goes still, like a figure painted on cloth. That man, says the verse, is the one the word 'friend' really names. And Arjuna, standing there, showed that to the whole world. Read it that way and you see the utprekṣā, the poet's fancy, at work. That is the sense.
utprekṣā is the figure in which the poet fancies one thing as another, or reads a purpose into what simply happened. Arjuna did not stand frozen in order to instruct anybody; the poet fancies that he did — that his stillness was a public demonstration of what friendship looks like. Viśvanātha says the figure is gamyā, to be arrived at, not stated: the verse never says 'as it were'.
