he mathurā-pate ! bhavad-anugrahaṁ vinā viraha-vibhramĀ jagad-vyavahāra-kramaṁ samaṁ Saṁ eva vismāritāḥ vallavN gaṇāḥ |
he mathurā-pate !O lord of Mathurā — he lifts the address to the front, where prose order wants it he supplies the particle he before the vocative that the verse leaves bareहे मथुरापति! — पद्य में सम्बोधन अकेला पड़ा था, विश्वनाथ 'हे' निपात जोड़ देते हैं
bhavad-anugrahaṁ vināapart from your mercy the verse reads bhavad-anusmṛtim, 'remembering you'; what is printed here is anugraham, 'your mercy'. The decode follows what stands in the textआपकी कृपा के बिना — पद्य में 'भवदनुस्मृतिम्' (आपका स्मरण) है, पर यहाँ छपा हुआ रूप 'अनुग्रहम्' (आपकी कृपा) है; डिकोड वही लेता है जो पाठ में खड़ा है
viraha-vibhramĀbecause separation from you has thrown them into confusion the print is damaged in this word; it stands for the verse's viraha-vibhrameṇa, an instrumental of causeविरह के विभ्रम के कारण — यह शब्द छपाई में खण्डित है; यह पद्य के 'विरहविभ्रमेण' के लिए है, कारण में तृतीया
jagad-vyavahāra-kramaṁthe running order of ordinary dealings with the world he says vyavahāra where the verse says vyavahṛti — the same sense in the commoner wordसंसार के व्यवहार के क्रम को — पद्य के 'व्यवहृति' के स्थान पर वे अधिक प्रचलित शब्द 'व्यवहार' रखते हैं, अर्थ वही
samaṁ Saṁ evathe whole of it, and nothing but the print is damaged here too; this is his restatement of the verse's nikhilam eva, with eva still legibleयहाँ भी छपाई खण्डित है; यह पद्य के 'निखिलम् एव' का ही उनका पुनःकथन है, जिसमें 'एव' अब भी पढ़ा जाता है
vismāritāḥhave been made to forget he keeps the verse's causative untouchedभुला दिए गए — पद्य का णिजन्त रूप वे ज्यों का त्यों रहने देते हैं
vallavN gaṇāḥare the troops of cowherds — they are the ones all of this is said about damaged for vallavānāṁ gaṇāḥ; he puts the subject last, so the sentence closes on who it is aboutग्वालों के समूह — खण्डित पाठ, 'वल्लवानां गणाः' के लिए; कर्ता को वे अन्त में रखते हैं, जिससे वाक्य इसी पर समाप्त हो कि बात किसकी है
he mathurā-pate — O lord of Mathurā; bhavad-anugrahaṁ vinā — apart from your mercy; viraha-vibhrameṇa — through the derangement of separation; jagad-vyavahāra-kramaṁ samagram eva — the entire routine of worldly dealings; vismāritāḥ vallavānāṁ gaṇāḥ — the troops of cowherds have been made to forget
he mathurā-pate — हे मथुरापति; bhavad-anugrahaṁ vinā — आपकी कृपा के बिना; viraha-vibhramĀ — विरह के विभ्रम से; jagad-vyavahāra-kramaṁ — संसार-व्यवहार के क्रम को; samaṁ Saṁ eva — (खण्डित) समूचा ही; vismāritāḥ — भुला दिए गए; vallavN gaṇāḥ — ग्वालों के समूह।
Viśvanātha does the plainest job first: he takes the verse apart and lays it out in prose order. Address at the front — he mathurā-pate. Then the exception, then the cause, then what was forgotten, then finally who. He changes only the ordinary words: vyavahāra for vyavahṛti, and a plain 'the whole of it' for nikhilam eva. One word is worth stopping on. Where the verse says bhavad-anusmṛti, remembering you, the printed commentary says bhavad-anugraha, your mercy. Read as it stands, that shifts the one thing left to them from their memory of him to his grace.
विश्वनाथ पद्य को सीधे गद्य में रख देते हैं। हे मथुरापति! आपकी कृपा के बिना, विरह के विभ्रम से, ग्वालों के समूह संसार-व्यवहार का सारा क्रम भुला बैठे हैं। कर्ता को वे वाक्य के अन्त में रखते हैं।
The printed text of this sentence is damaged in three places — viraha-vibhramĀ, samaṁ Saṁ eva, and vallavN gaṇāḥ. Each is legible enough to show which word of the verse is being restated (viraha-vibhrameṇa, nikhilam eva, vallavānāṁ gaṇāḥ), and the glosses give only that much. Nothing is reconstructed beyond it.

kim api anirvacanīyaṁ luṭhantīty ādayaḥ ||
kim apias for the verse's kim api'किम् अपि' का अर्थ है —
anirvacanīyaṁit means: there is no saying what it is a-nir-vacanīya, 'not to be spoken out' — beyond wording, not merely unusualअनिर्वचनीय, जो कहने में न आ सके (अ-निर्-वचनीय — वचन से परे, केवल विलक्षण भर नहीं)
luṭhantīty ādayaḥand it belongs to 'they roll' and the verbs that follow it iti-ādayaḥ quotes a series by its first member; so kim api hangs over the whole string — rolling, lying, laughing, running, weeping — not over one verb. He writes luṭhanti for the verse's luṇṭhanti, the same root without the nasal'लुठन्ति' आदि क्रियाएँ — 'इति आदयः' से पहली क्रिया लेकर सारी शृंखला ली जाती है; अतः 'किम् अपि' लोटना, पड़े रहना, हँसना, दौड़ना, रोना — सब पर लगता है, किसी एक क्रिया पर नहीं। वे पद्य के 'लुण्ठन्ति' को 'लुठन्ति' लिखते हैं, वही धातु बिना अनुनासिक के
kim api anirvacanīyam — kim api means indescribable; luṭhanti ity ādayaḥ — [and it goes with] 'they roll' and the rest
kim api — 'किम् अपि' का अर्थ; anirvacanīyaṁ — अनिर्वचनीय; luṭhantīty ādayaḥ — 'लुठन्ति' आदि क्रियाओं पर।
One word is left, and Viśvanātha settles it in four words. Kim api means anirvacanīya — no words reach it. Then he tells you where to attach it, and this is the useful part: not to weeping alone, which is what the word order might suggest, but to luṭhanti and the whole series after it. The rolling, the lying on the ground, the laughing, the running, the weeping — every bit of it is beyond describing.
'किम् अपि' का अर्थ है अनिर्वचनीय — जो कहा न जा सके। और यह 'लुठन्ति' आदि सारी क्रियाओं के साथ लगता है, किसी एक के साथ नहीं। अर्थात् उनका लोटना, पड़े रहना, हँसना, दौड़ना, रोना — सब कुछ अनिर्वचनीय है।
