netrāmbuja-dvandvam avekṣya pūrṇaṁ
netrāmbuja-dvandvamthe pair of lotus-eyes — this is what she looked at accusative, object of the gerund avekṣya; the metaphor (eyes = lotuses) is what makes the bee-image workनेत्ररूपी कमलों की जोड़ी को — यही रूपक आगे के भ्रमर-चित्र को सम्भव बनाता है
avekṣyaafter taking a good look at them gerund; its agent is nidrā-madhupī, 'the she-bee that is sleep', which only arrives in L4देखकर — देखनेवाली कौन है, यह चौथी पंक्ति में ही खुलता है
pūrṇaṁand found them brimming full agrees with dvandvam; what fills them is named in L2भरी हुई — किससे भरी, यह अगली पंक्ति बताती है
nidrā-madhupī (L4) — the she-bee that is sleep; varūthapasya (L2) — of Varūthapa; netrāmbuja-dvandvam — the pair of lotus-eyes; bāṣpāmbu-pūreṇa (L2) — brimming with a flood of tears; pūrṇaṁ — full; avekṣya — having looked and seen
She takes a look at that pair of lotus-eyes. She finds them brimming full.
An udāharaṇa — the lead-in reads jāgaryā, yathā, 'of sleeplessness, as in —', so these four lines illustrate jāgarya, staying awake. The whole verse runs on one picture: eyes are lotuses, and sleep is a bee that comes to settle on them.

bāṣpāmbu-pūreṇa varūthapasya |
bāṣpāmbu-pūreṇabrimming with a whole flood of tear-water instrumental of what fills — it answers 'full of what?' asked by pūrṇaṁ in L1आँसुओं के जल की बाढ़ से — 'किससे भरी?'
varūthapasyabelonging to Varūthapa — they are his eyes genitive with netrāmbuja-dvandvam in L1वरूथप के — अर्थात् पहली पंक्ति के नेत्रकमल उसी के हैं
varūthapasya — of Varūthapa; netrāmbuja-dvandvam (L1) — the pair of lotus-eyes; bāṣpāmbu-pūreṇa — with a flood of tear-water; pūrṇaṁ (L1) — brimful
Brimful — with a flood of tears. The eyes are Varūthapa's.
Viśvanātha names Varūthapa a sakhā, a friend, which is why he belongs in this laharī on preyo-bhakti-rasa.

tatrānuvṛttiṁ kila yādavendra
tatrathere — on those two eyesवहाँ, अर्थात् उन्हीं नेत्रकमलों पर
anuvṛttiṁher habit of coming back to them again and again accusative, object of mumoca in L4; anuvṛtti carries both senses at once — a bee's repeated visiting, and sleep's nightly returningबार-बार लौट आने को — भौंरी का फिर-फिर मँडराना और नींद का हर रात लौटना, दोनों अर्थ एक साथ
yādavendraO Yādavendra, lord of the Yādavas — the speaker is telling this to you vocative; it fixes the verse as speech addressed to Kṛṣṇaहे यादवेन्द्र!
yādavendra — O lord of the Yādavas; kila — so they tell; tatra — there, on those eyes; anuvṛttiṁ — her repeated resorting; mumoca (L4) — she let go
There, on those eyes, she used to keep coming back. That returning, O Yādavendra — so the story goes —
L4example
nirvidya nidrā-madhupī mumoca ||
nirvidyabecause she lost all taste for it — she was put off gerund giving the reason for mumoca: a bee wants honey, and a lotus flooded with water offers noneउदास होकर, मन हटाकर — क्योंकि भौंरी को मधु चाहिए और जल से भरा कमल मधु नहीं देता
nidrā-madhupīsleep, who is the little she-bee here nominative, the subject of the whole sentence; madhupī is feminine, so sleep is pictured as a female beeनिद्रारूपी भौंरी ने — स्त्रीलिङ्ग होने से नींद भौंरी के रूप में चित्रित है
mumocashe gave it up, let it goछोड़ दिया
nidrā-madhupī — the she-bee that is sleep; nirvidya — having been put off; tatra (L3) anuvṛttiṁ (L3) — her repeated visiting there; mumoca — gave up
Sleep is a little bee. She came again and again to those eye-lotuses. But they were flooded with tears, so she was put off and stopped coming. That is how the friend lies awake.
The image does the whole argument: bees settle on lotuses for honey, not on water-logged ones. So grief keeps sleep away — jāgarya, sleeplessness, without the word ever being used in the verse.

The dear friend has left Vṛndā's forest — the son of the lord of the cowherd village.
A second udāharaṇa; the lead-in reads ālambana-śūnyatā, 'having nothing to rest on'. Viśvanātha names the friend here Śrī Kṛṣṇa and reads vṛndāraṇya as Vṛndāvana.

It whirls and whirls, jittery, like a puff of cotton on the wind. And it gets nothing —

My mind has nothing to hold on to. Nowhere does it come to rest — not for a single instant.
The stanza is built on chiming syllables: laghu-bhṛtaṁ with patad-atitarām, caṭulaṁ with tulam, nirālambaṁ with vilambaṁ. The sound keeps circling the way the mind does.

netrāmbuja-dvayaṁthe two lotus-eyes he says dvaya where the verse says dvandva — same sense, 'a pair'नेत्ररूपी कमलों की जोड़ी को — श्लोक में 'द्वन्द्व' है, वे 'द्वय' कहते हैं; अर्थ वही 'जोड़ी'

Viśvanātha tells us plainly who Varūthapa is: a friend. The bee saw the two eye-lotuses full of water and gave up coming to them. He also pins down the word tatra, 'there' — it means the two eye-lotuses, nothing else.

Kṛṣṇa left Vṛndāvana, and the mind went light. Viśvanātha adds the reason for the flying up: light things rise, that is simply the rule. Yet the same mind is falling. So it spins, and never once — not for an instant, not anywhere — finds anything to lean on.
