atra bhaṅgī girāṁ narma-sakhaiḥ karṇa-kathā-rasaḥ |
atrahere — that is, in this friendship-rasa, among the friends just described locative of the topic under discussion, not of a placeइस प्रसंग में — अर्थात् जिस भाव का यहाँ वर्णन चल रहा है, उसमें
bhaṅgī girāṁa playful twist given to words — talking in bends and hints rather than straight out girām is genitive plural, 'of words'; bhaṅgī is literally a bend or curveबातों की वक्रता — वाणी का सीधा न रहकर टेढ़ा, संकेत-भरा हो जाना
narma-sakhaiḥcarried on with the narma-sakhās, the joking friends instrumental of association — these are the friends with whom this goes onनर्म-सखाओं के साथ — जिनके साथ यह हँसी-मजाक और वक्र बात चलती है
karṇa-kathā-rasaḥand the delight of talk poured into the ear — whispered, private conversationऔर कान में कही जानेवाली बात का रस
atra — here, among these friends; narma-sakhaiḥ — with the joking friends; girāṁ bhaṅgī — a playful twisting of words; karṇa-kathā-rasaḥ — and the delight of whispered ear-talk
atra — इस प्रसंग में; girāṁ bhaṅgī — बातों की वक्रता; narma-sakhaiḥ — नर्म-सखाओं के साथ; karṇa-kathā-rasaḥ — तथा कान में कही जानेवाली बात का रस
Here, with the narma-sakhās — the joking friends — there is a playful bending of words. Nothing is said straight; it is said with a twist. And there is the sweetness of talk spoken right into the ear, the private whisper.
यहाँ नर्म-सखाओं के साथ वाणी का वक्र, संकेत-भरा हो जाना होता है। और कान के पास मुँह ले जाकर कही जानेवाली बात का रस भी होता है।
narma-sakhā is a technical class of friend in this laharī: the joking companion, the one licensed for teasing and for confidences. Subala is the standing example.
इस लहरी में 'नर्म-सखा' मित्रों का एक विशेष वर्ग है — हँसी-मजाक करनेवाला साथी, जिसे छेड़ने और गुप्त बात सुनने-सुनाने की छूट है। सुबल इसका खड़ा उदाहरण है।

eṣu — among these friends; gokula-bālānāṁ — of the boys of Gokula; śrī-ślāghā-ity-ādi-ceṣṭitam — behaviour such as praising beauty and so on
eṣu — इन्हीं में; gokula-bālānāṁ — गोकुल की बालाओं की; śrī-ślāghety-ādi-ceṣṭitam — शोभा की प्रशंसा आदि चेष्टा होती है
Among these friends, the boys of Gokula behave in a certain way: praising someone's beauty, and other doings of that kind. The 'and so on' is left open — this is a sample, not a closed list.
इन्हीं प्रसंगों में गोकुल की बालाओं की चेष्टा का वर्णन आता है। जैसे उनकी शोभा की प्रशंसा करना, और ऐसी ही और बातें।

dhūrtas tvaṁyou are a sly one — clever, quick, nothing gets past youतू धूर्त है — चतुर, ताड़ लेनेवाला
yad avaiṣi hṛd-gatamsince you understand what is inside the heart yad = 'since, in that'; it gives the reason for calling him dhūrtaक्योंकि तू हृदय में छिपी बात को जान लेता है — यही उसे धूर्त कहने का कारण है
ataḥtherefore — and that is exactly why what follows happensइसीलिए
karṇe tava vyāhareI say it into your ear locative karṇe = the place the speech goes into; vyāhare is first person, 'I speak'मैं तेरे कान में ही कहता हूँ — बात कान के भीतर डाली जा रही है
tvaṁ dhūrtaḥ — you are a sly one; yad hṛd-gatam avaiṣi — since you know what is in the heart; ataḥ — therefore; tava karṇe vyāhare — I speak into your ear
tvaṁ dhūrtaḥ — तू धूर्त है; yad hṛd-gatam avaiṣi — क्योंकि तू मन की बात जान लेता है; ataḥ — इसलिए; tava karṇe vyāhare — तेरे कान में कहता हूँ
You are a sly one — because you read what is in the heart. So this I say into your ear, not out loud.
तू बड़ा चतुर है। क्योंकि जो मन के भीतर है, उसे भी ताड़ लेता है। इसीलिए यह बात मैं तेरे कान में ही कहता हूँ।
An udāharaṇa of the two things named in 3.3.76: the twisted, hinting speech with a narma-sakhā and the delight of karṇa-kathā, whispered ear-talk, followed by praise of beauty (śrī-ślāghā). The whisper is enacted in the verse itself.
यह ३.३.७६ में कही गई दोनों बातों का उदाहरण है — नर्म-सखा के साथ वक्र, संकेत-भरी वाणी, और कान में फुसफुसाकर कही जानेवाली बात का रस, जिसके पीछे सौन्दर्य की प्रशंसा आती है। फुसफुसाहट श्लोक के भीतर ही घटित हो रही है।

And right here, my friend, there are five or six girls who are Rohaṇa hills for the jewel of loveliness — the mine that gem comes out of.
हे सखे! यहाँ भी पाँच-छह ऐसी बालाएँ हैं। वे कान्ति रूपी रत्नों की उपजानेवाली भूमि ही हैं।
rohaṇa-bhū: Rohaṇa is the mountain country famous in Sanskrit poetry as the source of gems. Calling the girls rohaṇa-bhū of the dyuti-ratna makes their beauty not a possession but a mine that keeps producing. Note also the sound-play running into the next line: pañca-ṣāḥ, 'five or six', against pañceṣu, 'the five-arrowed one'.

Kāma has one job: conquer the worlds. He unloads that whole job onto these five or six girls — and then he is beside himself with delight. He no longer has to work; their beauty does the conquering for him.
जगत् को जीतने का जो काम कामदेव का है, उसका सारा भार वह इन्हीं बालाओं पर सौंप देता है। और ऐसा करके स्वयं मतवाला हो उठता है।

Viśvanātha decodes the metaphor. The jewel is loveliness itself. The 'Rohaṇa hill' means a mine — the ground where that jewel is born. And he names the girls: Rādhā and the others, five or six of them, are right here.

श्लोक में केवल 'बालाः' कहा गया है। 'राधाद्याः' अर्थात् 'श्रीराधा आदि' — यह पहचान श्रीविश्वनाथ की जोड़ी हुई है।

yatra — that is, yāsu bālāsu, in which girls; pañceṣuḥ — the five-arrowed, that is kandarpaḥ; jagatāṁ vijaye — in the conquest of the worlds; nija-dhurāṁ — his own load, that is svasya bhāvam, his own power; arpayan — placing it; mādyati — he becomes delighted; ity arthaḥ — that is the meaning
yatra yāsu bālāsu — जिन बालाओं में; pañceṣuḥ kandarpaḥ — कामदेव; jagatāṁ vijaye — जगत् जीतने में; nija-dhurāṁ svasya bhāvaṁ arpayan — अपना भाव-सामर्थ्य सौंपता हुआ; mādyati hṛṣṭau bhavati — मत्त, अर्थात् प्रसन्न होता है; ity arthaḥ — यह अर्थ है
Now the last line. 'In whom' means in these girls. The five-arrowed one is Kandarpa. His 'own load' Viśvanātha reads as his own bhāva — the very power by which he conquers. He hands that over to them, and then he is delighted. That is the meaning.
'यत्र' का अर्थ है जिन बालाओं में। 'पञ्चेषु' कामदेव है। जगत् को जीतने के काम में वह अपनी धुरा, अर्थात् अपना ही भाव, उनमें सौंप देता है और मत्त — अर्थात् प्रसन्न — हो जाता है। यही यहाँ का अर्थ है।
The printed hṛṣṭau stands for hṛṣṭaḥ, 'delighted' — the gloss-word for mādyati, 'he goes wild'. Reading nija-dhur as svasya bhāva turns the image from a mere burden being set down into Kāma transferring his own working power into the girls.
छपा हुआ रूप 'हृष्टौ' वस्तुतः 'हृष्टः' के लिए है, अर्थात् 'प्रसन्न' — जो 'माद्यति' का व्याख्या-शब्द है। 'निज-धुरा' को 'स्वस्य भावम्' पढ़ने से चित्र बदल जाता है: अब केवल भार उतारकर रख देना नहीं, अपितु काम अपनी ही कार्य-शक्ति बालाओं में सौंप देता है।
