Viśvanātha unpacks the compound baddha-spardham. It is a bahuvrīhi: "the one by whom rivalry has been struck up with Mādhava, and struck up out of friendship". So the word describes Śrīdāmā himself. He also supplies "with" — the contest is with Kṛṣṇa, side by side, not against him as an enemy.

kā dhenavaḥ ity ādau — in the passage beginning "what are the cows"; tvāṁ prāpya — on obtaining you; dhenu-ādayaḥ bhavanti — the cows and the rest come to be; iti bhāvaḥ — that is the sense.
Viśvanātha turns the questions the positive way round: it is only when they have Kṛṣṇa that cows are cows at all. Getting him is what makes each thing be itself.
Jīva reads the same questions from the other side (s3): without him even the cows become non-cows. Both readings are left standing as each commentator gives them.
