kṣaṇādarśanato dīnāḥ sadā saha-vihāriṇaḥ |
kṣaṇādarśanataḥbecause they do not see him even for one moment kṣaṇa 'a moment' + adarśana 'not seeing'; the -taḥ ending works like an ablative of cause — the not-seeing is what makes them what the next word saysक्षण भर भी दर्शन न होने के कारण
dīnāḥthey go to pieces, they become miserableवे दीन — दुःखी और निस्तेज — हो जाते हैं
sadāalways, without a breakसदा, हर समय
saha-vihāriṇaḥthey play together with himजो उन्हीं के साथ विहार करते रहते हैं
kṣaṇādarśanataḥ — because they do not see him even for a moment; dīnāḥ — they become miserable; sadā — always; saha-vihāriṇaḥ — they play together with him.
Lose sight of him for one moment and they are wretched. And they are always at play together with him — never apart.
L2definition
tad-eka-jīvitāḥ proktā vayasyā vraja-vāsinaḥ |
tad-eka-jīvitāḥhe alone is their life bahuvrīhi — 'those for whom he alone is the life'; eka carries the weight: not chiefly, onlyजिनका जीवन केवल वही एक हैं — और कोई नहीं
proktāḥthey are declared to be, this is what they are calledऐसे कहे गए हैं
vayasyāḥthe vayasyas, the friends of his own ageसमान अवस्था वाले सखा
vraja-vāsinaḥthe ones who live in Vrajaजो व्रज में ही निवास करते हैं
vraja-vāsinaḥ — those who live in Vraja; vayasyāḥ — the friends of his own age; tad-eka-jīvitāḥ — he alone is their life; proktāḥ — so they are declared.
He alone is their life. That is how the friends of his own age who live in Vraja are described.
L3conclusion
ataḥ sarva-vayasyeṣu pradhānatvaṁ bhajanty amī ||
ataḥand so, for that reasonइसी कारण
sarva-vayasyeṣuamong all the friends of his age, wherever they live locative of the group within which the ranking is madeसब सखाओं के बीच में

amīthese ones here — the Vraja friends just describedये ही, यही सखा
ataḥ — and so; amī — these ones; sarva-vayasyeṣu — among all the friends of his age; pradhānatvam — first place; bhajanti — they hold.
So these are the ones who stand first among all his age-mate friends. Everything said in the two lines above is the reason: the misery at a moment's absence, the constant play together, and his being their one life.

kṣaṇādarśanata iti |

kṣaṇādarśanataḥ iti — the verse that begins 'kṣaṇādarśanataḥ'.
He picks the verse up by its opening word — 'kṣaṇādarśanataḥ' — and comments on it.
A pratīka: quoting the first word or two with iti is the standard way a commentator names the verse he is about to explain.

For the words 'he alone is their life', go to the Bhāgavata passage that begins 'and his dear friends said to Kṛṣṇa'. That scene is where you see it in action.
Why cited: Cited by Jīva as scriptural proof of the verse's tad-eka-jīvitāḥ — that Kṛṣṇa alone is the life of the Vraja boys.
Viśvanātha, below, attaches this same Bhāgavata verse (10.14.45) to the verse's first phrase, kṣaṇādarśanataḥ, and reaches for a different verse for tad-eka-jīvitā. The two readings stand side by side.

Why cited: Cited by Viśvanātha to prove the verse's kṣaṇādarśanataḥ dīnāḥ — the boys are undone by even a short absence, so much so that the meal stops until he is back in sight.

The huge heron swallowed Kṛṣṇa. The boys, Rāma and the others, saw it and went completely blank. The comparison is exact: the senses are the boys, and Kṛṣṇa is the prāṇa, the life-breath. Take the breath out of a body and the eyes stop seeing and the ears stop hearing — they are still there, but nothing works. That is what the boys became the instant Kṛṣṇa was gone from sight. The point the comparison makes is that their functioning is not their own; it runs on him.
Why cited: Cited by Viśvanātha to prove the verse's tad-eka-jīvitāḥ — the boys have no life of their own apart from Kṛṣṇa, exactly as the senses have none apart from the life-breath.
prāṇa here is the life-breath that keeps the senses working; in the older Upaniṣadic argument the senses are ranked below prāṇa because they fail without it. That ranking is what the verse borrows: Kṛṣṇa is to these boys what prāṇa is to the senses.
