cañcat-kaustubha-kaumudī-samudayaṁhim whose flickering Kaustubha jewel is throwing off a whole flood of moonlight bahuvrīhi in the accusative — it describes Kṛṣṇa, who is the object of dṛṣṭvā down in line 3; kaumudī is moonlight, so the jewel's glow is being called moonshineजिसके ऊपर झिलमिलाते कौस्तुभ मणि की चाँदनी का समूह छा रहा है — ऐसे (कृष्ण) को; यह बहुव्रीहि है और द्वितीया में है, इसलिए तीसरी पंक्ति के 'दृष्ट्वा' के कर्म कृष्ण का ही वर्णन करता है।
kaumodakī-cakrayoḥof the club Kaumodakī and the disc — the first pair of weapons genitive dual, and it waits for sakhyena in the next lineकौमोदकी गदा और सुदर्शन चक्र — इन दोनों का; षष्ठी द्विवचन है, जो आगे की पंक्ति के 'सख्येन' की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है
cañcat-kaustubha-kaumudī-samudayam — him whose flickering Kaustubha pours out a flood of moonlight; kaumodakī-cakrayoḥ — of the club Kaumodakī and the disc.
The verse is describing Kṛṣṇa. The Kaustubha on his chest is flashing, and the light coming off it is like moonlight spilling everywhere. Then the weapons are named in pairs: first the club Kaumodakī and the disc.
An udāharaṇa: the lead-in anyatra, yathā— , 'elsewhere, as follows', offers this as a further instance of sakhya toward Kṛṣṇa, here in the sons of Pāṇḍu rather than in Vraja. Jīva assigns the words to Dāruka, Kṛṣṇa's charioteer.

sakhyenabecause the two of them keep company with each other instrumental of cause; Viśvanātha reads it as milanena, 'by their coming together'. The word is sakhya — the very name of the rasa this laharī defines — used here of weapons paired off, so both layers are liveक्योंकि वे परस्पर सखा-भाव से, अर्थात् एक-दूसरे के साथ मिलकर स्थित हैं — तृतीया हेतु में; विश्वनाथ इसे 'मिलनेन' कहकर खोलते हैं, अर्थात् मिल जाने से।
ujjvalitaiḥwhich are made to blaze because of it instrumental plural, agreeing with bhujaiḥ — the arms are what light upउससे जो जगमगा उठीं — तृतीया बहुवचन, आगे 'भुजैः' का विशेषण; चमक भुजाओं की है

jalajayoḥof the two water-born things — the lotus and the conch genitive dual; sakhyena is carried over to this second pair as wellकमल और शंख — इन दो जलजों का; षष्ठी द्विवचन, और 'सख्येन' इस दूसरी जोड़ी पर भी खिंचकर आता है
caturbhir bhujaiḥwith his four armsचार भुजाओं से
kaumodakī-cakrayoḥ sakhyena — because the club and the disc keep company; tathā jalajayoḥ — and likewise the lotus and the conch; ujjvalitaiḥ caturbhiḥ bhujaiḥ — with the four arms that blaze because of it; āḍhyam — him, richly furnished.
Four arms, and the weapons are set out two by two: the club with the disc, the lotus with the conch. The arms blaze, and the reason given is the sakhya between each pair — their keeping company. Notice the word. This is the friendship chapter, and even his weapons are being described as friends.
śleṣa. sakhya carries its plain sense here, the 'pairing' or company of one weapon with another — that is how Viśvanātha glosses it, milanena. But it is also the technical name of the mood the verse is brought in to illustrate. The poet lets the two sit on top of each other; the decode keeps both.

The colour contrast is the point: dark green-black body, golden cloth. hāri ('charming') and haram ('carrying off') are the same sound doing opposite work — the lovely gem, and the one who robs it of its loveliness.

dāruka-vākyam — these are Dāruka's words; cañcat — 'flickering', that is, itas tataḥ prasaran — spreading this way and that; kaustubha-kaumudī-samudayaḥ yasya tam — him, the one whose Kaustubha-moonlight streams out in a mass.
First, whose speech is this? Jīva says: Dāruka's. Then he takes the opening compound apart. cañcat means the light is running about, here and there. And the long word is a bahuvrīhi — read it as 'him, the one whose Kaustubha sends out a flood of moonlight.'

śirasi nṛpatir drāg aghrāsīd aghārim iti vakṣyamāṇāt — because it will be said that the king at once smelled Aghāri's head; yudhiṣṭhira-ādīnām vātsalya-ādi-valitatve api — even though Yudhiṣṭhira and the rest are wrapped in vātsalya and the other moods; atra pāṇḍu-suta-sāmānya-uktiḥ — the wording here is the general one, 'sons of Pāṇḍu'; sauhṛdya-rūpe sakhye tat-tad-aṁśasya sambhavāt — because in sakhya, which is warm-heartedness, a share of each of those is possible.
There is a difficulty in the wording. A later verse will say the king at once smelled Aghāri's head — and smelling the head is what an elder does to a child. So Yudhiṣṭhira and the others carry vātsalya and other moods, not plain friendship. Then why does this verse gather them all under one flat phrase, 'the sons of Pāṇḍu'? Jīva's answer: sakhya is warm-heartedness, and warm-heartedness is wide enough to hold a share of each of those other moods inside it.

Here is the harder objection. Four arms are majesty, and majesty normally kills familiarity — so how does friendship survive the sight? Jīva answers: these men see that form over and over. It does not strike them as anything very unusual. So the sakhya holds.

Arjuna's own words in the Gītā: 'by that same four-armed form.' He asks for it as something he already knows. Then Jīva adds a limit with tu. Even in that setting, what Kṛṣṇa permanently stands in is the beautiful human shape.
Why cited: Arjuna's request is adduced to prove the Pāṇḍavas were long familiar with the four-armed form — it was nothing new to them, which is why it did not break the friendship.

ataḥ — therefore; tad-vayasyāḥ rūpa-veṣa-guṇa-ādyaiḥ tu samāḥ — his age-mates being 'his equals in form, dress, qualities and the rest'; teṣām ca caturbhujatvam āpadyate — four-armedness comes upon them as well.
So here is where it lands. The text says his friends match him in form, dress and qualities. Then four arms come to them too. If the friends themselves can turn four-armed, four arms on Kṛṣṇa are no barrier to friendship.

Viśvanātha runs the whole verse through in prose. cañcat: the light spreading here and there. The long word: 'him whose Kaustubha pours out moonlight.' kaumodakī is the club — so the pair is club and disc. And sakhyena, he says, means milana, their coming together. Likewise the two water-born ones, the lotus and the conch. Those pairings are what set the arms blazing. āḍhyam just means 'joined with' the four arms. Seeing that Kṛṣṇa, they did not reach ātma-sambhāvanā, the knowledge 'I am this one' — jagmuḥ meaning simply 'they attained'.
śleṣa, made explicit. The verse's sakhyena is the same word as the sakhya-rasa this laharī is defining, but Viśvanātha lets it do its plain work: milana, the company one weapon keeps with another. Both layers stand — paired weapons on the surface, and the friendship-mood the verse is here to illustrate.

Why does the verse say flatly 'the sons of Pāṇḍu'? Yudhiṣṭhira and the elder ones are marked by vātsalya-rati, after all. Because sakhya-rasa can still arise in them — that much is possible, so the general name holds.
