हे अघहर! मेरी यह (दृष्टि) लज्जा को छोड़कर पतिंगे के समान (हो गई है)।
An udāharaṇa (illustrative verse) in prīti-bhakti-rasa (dāsya); a devotee's eye is likened to a moth that flies recklessly at the flame, here longing for Kṛṣṇa's feet. The lead-in is 'yathā vā—', 'or as in the following'.
यह प्रीति-भक्ति-रस (दास्य) का एक उदाहरण-श्लोक है; भक्त की आँख को उस पतिंगे की उपमा दी गई है जो निडर होकर दीपशिखा पर टूट पड़ता है — यहाँ वह कृष्ण के चरणों की अभिलाषा में ऐसी ही है। इसका उपक्रम 'यथा वा—' अर्थात् 'अथवा जैसे इस श्लोक में' है।

hṛt-pataṅgī iti — the word 'hṛt-pataṅgī'; luptopamā — is a simile whose comparison-word is elided.
hṛt-pataṅgī iti — 'हृत्-पतंगी' यहाँ; luptopamā — लुप्तोपमा है
The word Jīva reads as 'hṛt-pataṅgī' (heart-moth) is a luptopamā — 'the heart that is like a moth,' with the 'like' silently dropped, not a literal moth.
'हृत्-पतंगी' यहाँ लुप्तोपमा है।
luptopamā = a simile in which the particle of comparison (iva / vat) is elided.
लुप्तोपमा वह उपमा है जिसमें उपमावाचक शब्द (इव / वत्) लुप्त रहता है।

kyaṅ-arthe — in the meaning of kyaṅ ('acting like'); kvib-antāt — [the word is formed] from a base ending in kvip.
kyaṅ-arthe — क्यङ् के अर्थ में; kvib-antāt — क्विबन्त शब्द से (यह रूप बना है)
Grammatically: the sense is that of the kyaṅ suffix — 'to act like [a moth]' — and the word is built on a stem ending in the invisible suffix kvip.
(यहाँ यह पद) क्यङ् के अर्थ में क्विबन्त शब्द से (बना है)।
kyaṅ = a denominative affix meaning 'to behave like / act as' the base noun; kvip = a kṛt affix that leaves no visible trace (a zero-suffix).
क्यङ् वह नामधातु-प्रत्यय है जिसका अर्थ है 'आधार-शब्द के समान आचरण करना / वैसा बन जाना'; क्विप् वह कृत्-प्रत्यय है जो कोई दृश्य चिह्न नहीं छोड़ता (शून्य-प्रत्यय)।

'kartari kṛd vihitaḥ kvib' iti — since the rule says 'the kvip kṛt is enjoined in the agent sense'; punaḥ — a second [kvip is added]; upamā-vācakasya pūrvasya kvipo lopāt — because the earlier kvip, the one carrying the simile, is elided.
punaḥ — फिर; kartari kṛd vihitaḥ kvib iti — 'कर्तरि कृद् विहितः क्विब्' इस नियम से; upamā-vācakasya pūrvasya — उपमावाचक पूर्व (क्विप्) का; kvipo lopāt — क्विप् का लोप हो जाने से
There are two kvip affixes here. The first carries the simile ('like a moth') and is then elided — and that elision is exactly why it counts as a luptopamā. The second kvip is added by the rule 'the kvip kṛt-affix is enjoined in the agent sense,' yielding the agent noun.
फिर 'कर्तरि कृद् विहितः क्विब्' इस नियम के अनुसार (दूसरा क्विप् कर्ता में विहित है, अतः) उपमावाचक पूर्व क्विप् का लोप हो जाता है।
Why cited: The rule 'kartari kṛd vihitaḥ kvib' is adduced to show the second kvip is the agent-forming affix, so the first, simile-carrying kvip drops out — hence luptopamā.
क्यों उद्धृत: 'कर्तरि कृद् विहितः क्विब्' नियम इसलिए उद्धृत किया गया है कि दिखाया जा सके — दूसरा क्विप् कर्ता-बोधक प्रत्यय है, इसलिए पहला उपमावाचक क्विप् लुप्त हो जाता है, और इसी से लुप्तोपमा बनती है।

rūpaka = metaphor / identification (X is Y); upamā = simile (X is like Y). Jīva insists on simile, not metaphor.
