The thirst to behold Hari's lotus feet.
हरि के चरण-कमलों के दर्शन की तृष्णा।
An udāharaṇa of cintā ('anxious worry'), given here under the lead-in cintā, yathā— ('worry, for example—') as a sañcāri-bhāva. Per Jīva and Viśvanātha the whole verse is kasyacid bhaktasya nirjana-vilāpaḥ, 'the solitary lament of some unnamed devotee.'
यह चिन्ता नामक सञ्चारी-भाव का उदाहरण है, जो 'चिन्ता, यथा—' इस प्रस्तावना के अन्तर्गत दिया गया है। जीव और विश्वनाथ के अनुसार सम्पूर्ण श्लोक किसी अनाम भक्त का निर्जन-विलाप है।

Alas, alas — as I sigh, the nights pass me by.
हाय हाय! साँसें भरते हुए मेरी (उपेक्षा करके) रातें बीतती चली जाती हैं।
The grief-cry 'hari hari' is, word for word, the Lord's own name — the sorrow is voiced in the very syllables the devotee longs to serve. The commentators read the verb as the plural prayānti, 'the nights pass.'
शोक की यह पुकार 'हरि हरि' अक्षरशः भगवान् का ही नाम है—जिन अक्षरों की सेवा भक्त तरसता है, उन्हीं में उसका दुःख फूट पड़ता है। टीकाकार इस क्रिया को बहुवचन 'प्रयान्ति' पढ़ते हैं, अर्थात् 'रातें बीत जाती हैं।'

hari hari — 'हरि हरि'; khede — खेद (शोक) के अर्थ में।
'Hari hari' here is a cry of grief — not the name being chanted, but a sigh of sorrow.
यहाँ 'हरि हरि' शोक का उद्गार है, भगवान् का नाम नहीं।
The double reading is the point: the exclamation of grief is spelled with the Lord's own name Hari — the very name the lamenter aches to reach becomes the shape of his despair.
यही द्वयर्थता तात्पर्य है—शोक का यह उद्गार भगवान् 'हरि' के ही नाम से बना है; जिस नाम तक पहुँचने के लिए विलापी तड़पता है, वही नाम उसकी निराशा का रूप बन जाता है।

A viśeṣaṇa is a qualifier that is part of what the thing is — like 'blue' in 'a blue lotus,' which tells you the flower's own nature — as against an upalakṣaṇa, a mere pointer that only helps you locate it (like 'the house with the crow on it,' where the crow is no part of the house). Viśvanātha calls the 'hari-pada…' phrases viśeṣaṇas: the longing itself belongs to who this devotee is, not a chance label.
