gurur api bhujagād bhīs takṣakāt prājya-rājya-
gurur apieven though grave, even though death-dealing (qualifies the fear that follows) guru- as adjective, 'heavy / grave'; api = 'even', granting how terrible it wasयद्यपि वह भारी (गम्भीर) था — 'गुरुः' यहाँ विशेषण है, और 'अपि' यह स्वीकार करता है कि वह कितना भयंकर था
bhujagātfrom the serpent (ablative: the source of the fear)सर्प से (उत्पन्न)
bhīḥfear — the first of the three hardships (nominative subject, fem.)भय
takṣakātnamely from Takṣaka ablative in apposition to bhujagāt — 'the serpent, that is, Takṣaka'तक्षक से — यह 'भुजगात्' का ही समानाधिकरण है, अर्थात् 'वह सर्प, यानी तक्षक'
prājya-rājya-of a vast, ample kingdom compound runs on into L2, completed by cyutiḥ, 'its loss'विशाल राज्य की (यह समास आगे L2 में च्युतिः से पूर्ण होता है — 'उसकी हानि')
gurur api — even though grave; bhīḥ — the fear; bhujagāt takṣakāt — from the serpent Takṣaka; prājya-rājya- — of a vast kingdom (→ cyutiḥ, 'its loss', L2).
Take even the deadliest fear — the fear of the snake Takṣaka [who was fated to bite the king]. And take a vast kingdom. The sentence starts stacking up Parīkṣit's hardships; the loss of that kingdom is named in the next line.
An udāharaṇa (the lead-in is yathā, 'as for example') in the second laharī of the Paścima-vibhāga, prīti-bhakti-rasa — the rasa of servitude (dāsya). It is offered in Parīkṣit's case: three grievous things (deadly fear, loss of kingdom, a fast unto death) actually increase his joy because they carry him deeper into hearing Kṛṣṇa's pastimes. Per Jīva (s1) the verse works the kaimutya — the 'how much more so' — point through a case of direct realization.
L2example
cyutir atiśayinī ca prāya-caryā ca gurvī |
cyutiḥthe loss, the falling-away (completes prājya-rājya-cyutiḥ, 'loss of the vast kingdom'); the second hardshipहानि (राज्य की च्युति)
atiśayinī caand one that was extreme, out of the ordinary (qualifies the loss; ca links the second item)और वह अत्यधिक (बहुत बड़ी) थी
prāya-caryā caand the prāya-observance — the fast unto death (the third hardship; ca links the third item) prāya = fasting to the end; caryā = the practice / observance of itऔर प्रायोपवेश का अनुष्ठान — 'प्राय' अर्थात् अन्त तक का उपवास, 'चर्या' अर्थात् उसका आचरण
gurvī[a fast that was] heavy, severe (qualifies prāya-caryā, fem.)
prājya-rājya-cyutiḥ — the loss of the vast kingdom; atiśayinī ca — and an extreme one; prāya-caryā ca — and the prāya-observance, the fast unto death; gurvī — a severe one.
That vast kingdom — its loss, and no ordinary loss but an extreme one. And on top of that, the prāya-vrata: sitting down to fast until death, a heavy, punishing observance. So now three hard things stand together: deadly fear, total loss of kingdom, and a fatal fast.

atanuta mudam uccaiḥ kṛṣṇa-līlā-sudhāntar-
atanuta[these three together] increased, spread wide (main verb; sg., taking the three hardships as one bundle) aorist of √tan, 'to stretch / extend'; here 'expanded, made grow'बढ़ा दिया (विस्तृत किया) — √तन् का अद्यतन रूप, 'फैलाना' के अर्थ में
mudamthe joy (what got increased — direct object)हर्ष को
uccaiḥgreatly, to a high pitchअत्यधिक (ऊँचे स्तर तक)
kṛṣṇa-līlā-sudhā-antar-within the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes compound runs on into L4, joining viharaṇa- ('roaming within it')कृष्ण-लीला रूपी अमृत के भीतर (यह समास आगे L4 में विहरण- से जुड़कर 'उसके भीतर विचरण' बनता है)
[etāni trīṇi] atanuta — increased; uccaiḥ — greatly; mudam — the joy; kṛṣṇa-līlā-sudhā-antar- — within the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes (→ viharaṇa, 'roaming', L4).
Here is the turn: those three hardships greatly increased his joy. The verb is singular — the three are taken as one bundle of suffering, and that whole bundle raised his delight. Why? Because of something happening 'within the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes' — the reason lands in the last line.

viharaṇa-sacivatvād auttareyasya rājñaḥ ||
kṛṣṇa-līlā-sudhā-antar-viharaṇa-sacivatvātbecause they served as aide to [his] roaming within the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes ablative of cause = 'because'; saciva-tva = 'being a minister / aide', i.e. they helped along his immersionक्योंकि वे कृष्ण-लीला रूपी अमृत के भीतर विचरण के सचिव (सहायक) बन गए — 'सचिवत्व' अर्थात् मन्त्री या सहायक होना, अर्थात् उन्होंने उस निमग्नता को आगे बढ़ाया
auttareyasya rājñaḥof the king, the son of Uttarā — whose joy it was (Parīkṣit) genitive attaching to mudam in L3: 'the joy of King Parīkṣit'उत्तरा-पुत्र राजा (परीक्षित) के — यह षष्ठी L3 के मुदम् से जुड़ती है: 'राजा परीक्षित के हर्ष को'
kṛṣṇa-līlā-sudhā-antar-viharaṇa-sacivatvāt — because they aided [his] roaming within the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes; auttareyasya rājñaḥ — of King Parīkṣit, son of Uttarā (whose joy it was).
The reason: those very hardships acted as aides — like ministers — to his roaming inside the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes. Facing death, stripped of his kingdom, fasting to the end, Parīkṣit could give himself wholly to hearing Kṛṣṇa's līlā. So the hardships increased the joy of the king, the son of Uttarā.

Jīva sets the verse up. Here Rūpa gives an example, and does it through a case of direct, face-to-face realization. By it he hints at a kaimutya — a 'how much more so' point: if even deadly, painful things raise one's joy when they aid immersion in Kṛṣṇa-kathā, how much more the pleasant ones. The verse that carries this is the one beginning 'gurur…'.
kaimutya (from kim uta, 'how much more?') is the a-fortiori move: proving a lesser-seeming case establishes the greater one all the more.

prāya-caryā prāṇās tam anaśana-vratam |
prāya-caryāthe word prāya-caryā (in the verse) —'प्राय-चर्या' का अर्थ है
prāṇāḥ[glossing prāya via] the life-breaths — i.e. bearing on life itself compressed gloss: prāya is taken as reaching to the prāṇas, the vital breathsप्राण — संक्षिप्त व्याख्या: 'प्राय' को प्राणों तक पहुँचने वाला माना गया है
tam anaśana-vratamthat [observance is] the vow of not eating tam picks up the observance; anaśana-vrata = the fast unto deathउस अनशन-व्रत को — 'तम्' उस अनुष्ठान को उठाता है, और 'अनशन-व्रत' अर्थात् आमरण उपवास
prāya-caryā — prāya-caryā; prāṇāḥ … tam anaśana-vratam — [means] the vow of not eating, [borne] to the life-breaths.
Jīva glosses prāya-caryā: it is the anaśana-vrata, the vow of not eating — the fast carried on to the very end of the life-breaths.
The gloss is compressed in the source (prāṇās tam anaśana-vratam); its sense is that the fast is sustained unto the life-breaths, i.e. unto death.

Viśvanātha runs the whole verse through in plain order. From Takṣaka came grave fear; likewise the extreme loss of a rich kingdom; and the fast unto death, the vow of not eating to life's end. All of this, though it breeds the utmost misery, still increased the joy of King Parīkṣit, the son of Uttarā — because it acted as an aide, a helper, to his roaming amid the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes. And here is the point (bhāva): fear and the other hardships are called 'aides' precisely because they breed deep attachment to hearing about Kṛṣṇa. That is how their 'aide-hood' should be understood.
