With the flood-tide of his tears, Uddhava offers the ocean its finest wife — a river. Rivers are the ocean's wives; his weeping swells into the best of them.
उद्धव आँसुओं के जल की बाढ़ से समुद्र की सर्वश्रेष्ठ पत्नी को — अर्थात् एक नदी को — मानो उत्पन्न करके भेंट कर रहे हैं।
An udāharaṇa of prīti-bhakti-rasa (dāsya-rasa, the mood of loving servitude), Paścima-vibhāga laharī 2; the devotee here is Uddhava. Viśvanātha spells out the conceit: the tears become a great river — the finest 'wife' of the ocean — which Uddhava in effect produces and presents.

The verse strings together the sāttvika-bhāvas of dāsya: tears (the tear-flood of L1), the breaking voice (svara-bhaṅga, L2), horripilation (romāñca, L3), and here being stunned motionless (stambha — 'stabdhaḥ'). Viśvanātha names the middle two explicitly.
यह श्लोक दास्य के सात्त्विक-भावों को एक साथ पिरोता है — आँसू (पहली पंक्ति की अश्रु-बाढ़), स्वर-भंग (दूसरी पंक्ति), रोमांच (तीसरी पंक्ति), और यहाँ स्तम्भ अर्थात् जड़वत् निश्चल हो जाना ('स्तब्धः')। इनमें से बीच के दो को विश्वनाथ स्पष्ट रूप से नाम देकर बताते हैं।

Jīva unpacks the big compound piece by piece. 'Rajyan' — he carries a special sweetness of voice, born of his love. 'Mañjula' — his throat is lovely by nature, charming with the sweetness of his every word. The 'garbha' of that throat is its middle, its inside. 'Luṭhita' — the syllables roll right there, slipping this way and that, wandering. So the whole word means: the one in whose throat the opening syllables of praise stumble.

Viśvanātha: with the flood of his tears as his instrument, Uddhava in effect produces the finest 'wife' of the ocean — a river — and offers it. Then, in order to recite his hymn, he takes on a voice sweetened by love (that is 'rajyan'). His throat is lovely by nature; its 'garbha' is its inside; 'luṭhita' means the praise-syllables roll and slip about right there.

anena svara-bhaṅgaḥ uktaḥ — by the foregoing the voice-break is stated; phulla-kadambasya ḍambara-tulā = atiśaya-tulanā — the kadamba comparison signals swelling abundance; aṅgaiḥ karaṇaiḥ cumban = arthā svīkurvan — with limbs as instrument, 'kissing' means embracing in effect; ity anena romañcaḥ uktaḥ — by this the horripilation is stated.
Viśvanātha names the bodily signs. By the stumbling syllables the poet has stated svara-bhaṅga, the breaking of the voice. 'Ḍambara-tulā' of a blooming kadamba means a comparison to its swelling abundance; with his limbs so bristling as the instrument, 'kissing' — that is, in effect embracing Kṛṣṇa — states romāñca, the standing-up of the body hair.
विश्वनाथ कहते हैं — इस ('रज्यन्…') पद से स्वर-भंग कहा गया है। और खिले हुए कदम्ब के आडम्बर की बढ़ी-चढ़ी उपमा को अंगों रूपी करण से मानो चूमते हुए, अर्थात् उस उपमा को स्वीकार करते हुए — इस पद से रोमांच कहा गया है।
Both terms are sāttvika-bhāvas — involuntary bodily transformations of ecstatic love: svara-bhaṅga (the voice cracking) and romāñca (horripilation).
ये दोनों ही सात्त्विक-भाव हैं — प्रेमोन्माद से उत्पन्न अनैच्छिक शारीरिक विकार — स्वर-भंग (स्वर का टूटना) और रोमांच (रोंगटे खड़े होना)।
