These are the 'others' said not to nourish dāsya-rasa much.

Why none at all? Mada arises in two ways — from drinking wine, and from the agitation of lust (anaṅga = Kāma). In both forms alike it is unfit for devotional rasa, so it simply cannot nourish it.

Now an objection is met: trāsa (dread) and its kind, if they arise from an encounter with an enemy of Kṛṣṇa, can in fact nourish the rasa. Anticipating this, Rūpa wrote 'na-ati' — 'not MUCH nourishing' — rather than 'na,' 'not nourishing at all.' The small word 'ati' (much) is what leaves room for such cases.
This justifies the verse's exact wording na ati-poṣakatā (L5): a blanket 'na' would have been false, since dread born of facing Kṛṣṇa's foe does feed the mood.
