cañcad iti nārada-vākyam |
cañcad itithe verse beginning 'cañcat…' iti marks the pratīka — the verse's catchword'चञ्चत्' — इस प्रतीक (आरम्भ-शब्द) से (उठाया गया श्लोक)
nārada-vākyamis the speech of Nāradaनारद का वचन है
cañcad iti — the verse beginning 'cañcat…'; nārada-vākyam — is the utterance of Nārada
Viśvanātha assigns the verse to Nārada: these are his words.
Speaker again: Viśvanātha names Nārada, where Jīva (s1) named Dāruka. The editions differ and are left standing.

Viśvanātha walks the whole picture through. The glittering Kaustubha gem, whose moonlight rises full in him — such is Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the conqueror of Kaṁsa. He is endowed with four arms made resplendent by the company of the club and disc, and likewise the lotus and conch. He reads saṅkaṭa-tanuḥ as vyāpta-tanuḥ: his body pervaded, packed over with ornaments. He keeps the company of Garuḍa, the lord of birds. And 'eṣa,' this one, means: the one I am experiencing as producing wonder even beyond the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha himself.
Two lexical calls to watch: Viśvanātha reads the verse's kaumodakī as gadā (the club Kaumodakī being Kṛṣṇa's mace), and glosses saṅkaṭa-tanuḥ — where saṅkaṭa normally means 'narrow, crowded, in danger' — as vyāpta-tanuḥ, 'a body pervaded/covered over' with ornaments.
