kambu-pati-svanaiḥbecause the blasts of the lord of conches are sounding instrumental of cause — it says why he is thrilled; kambu is the conch, pati 'lord, chief', so the great conchक्योंकि महाशंख की ध्वनियाँ सुनाई पड़ीं — कम्बु अर्थात् शंख, पति अर्थात् प्रधान, इसलिए बड़ा शंख; इन्हीं शब्दों के कारण वह हर्षित है

sañcalanas he moves forward present participle — the whole line is a picture of him in motionचलता हुआ — सारी पंक्ति उसे गति में ही दिखाती है
hṛṣṭaḥ — thrilled; kambu-pati-svanaiḥ — because the blasts of the great conch are sounding; bhuvi luṭhac-cīrāñcalaḥ — the hem of his bark-cloth dragging on the ground; sañcalan — as he moves forward
The blast of the great conch sounds. He is thrilled. He starts forward, and the edge of his bark garment drags along the ground behind him.
An udāharaṇa. The lead-in is yathā vā—, 'or again, as in this': a second illustration of the sākṣātkāra kind of śānta, the kind introduced at 3.1.41 with sākṣātkāro yathā, under the two-fold division stated at 3.1.38 — śānto dvidhaiṣa pārokṣya-sākṣātkāra-vibhedataḥ, 'this śānta is of two kinds, by the difference of indirect knowledge and direct sight'.

ruddha-dṛgaśrubhiḥhis sight blocked by tears printed as one compound; both Jīva and Viśvanātha construe it as aśrubhiḥ ruddha-dṛk — 'eyes blocked by tears', the tears in the instrumentalछपा हुआ एक ही समास है, पर जीव और विश्वनाथ दोनों इसे 'अश्रुभिः रुद्ध-दृक्' करके जोड़ते हैं — आँसुओं से जिसकी दृष्टि रुक गई है, आँसू तृतीया में

eṣa — this man here; aśrubhiḥ ruddha-dṛk — his sight blocked by tears; pulakitaḥ — his hair standing on end; drāk — at once; līna-vrataḥ — his vow dissolved away; mūrdhnā — and with his head [he signals: with prakaṭīkaroti, line 4]
Look at him. Tears block his eyes, his hair is standing on end. In an instant his vow has melted away. And his head is doing the talking — the words for what he shows come in the fourth line.

mudāwith delight instrumental of manner; it can be heard with the arriving or with the yogī's signalling in line
añjana-tviṣi para-brahmaṇi — when the supreme brahman, dark with the sheen of collyrium; mudā — with delight; akṣṇoḥ aṅganam avāpte — has come into the courtyard of his two eyes
Here is the cause of it all. The supreme brahman — but dark, with the sheen of collyrium — has walked into the courtyard of his eyes. Not reasoned about: seen. Brahman with a colour and a shape.
The point of the line is that para-brahman, the very thing the yogī was meditating on as formless, turns up in front of his eyes with a complexion. That is what makes this a sākṣātkāra, a direct sight, and not the pārokṣya kind.

Viśvanātha spells it out as brahma-svarūpa-sthitiस्वरूप में स्थित रहने के प्रति — सप्तमी बताती है कि अवज्ञा किस पर है; स्वरूप-स्थिति योगी का अपना लक्ष्य है, आत्मा के अपने रूप में ठहरना।
yogī — the yogī; mūrdhnā mudrābhiḥ [from line 2] — with his head and with signs of his hands; svarūpa-sthitau — for standing in his own true form; avamatiṁ — his low opinion; prakaṭīkaroti — makes plain for all to see
He cannot speak, so he signs it with his head and his hands. And what he signs is contempt — contempt for the very thing he had been practising for: standing in his own true form. The moment he sees the dark-hued Supreme, that goal looks small to him.

aśrubhiḥ ruddha-dṛk — 'sight blocked by tears'; iti yojyam — construe it that way
The verse prints ruddha-dṛg-aśrubhiḥ as one run of words. Jīva tells you how to take it apart: the tears are the instrument, the eyes are what is blocked. Sight blocked by tears.

Jīva takes līna-vrataḥ apart. līna means naṣṭa, gone. vrata is not one promise but all the rules he kept as a yogī. And the whole compound describes the man: he is the one whose observances have just dissolved.

Viśvanātha too first settles the syntax. Split the printed run: the tears are what block, the eyes are what is blocked. Sight blocked by tears.

līna is naṣṭa, gone. vrata covers the whole set of rules the yogī had been keeping. The compound names the man: the one whose practice has just dissolved out from under him.
Note where the vow goes. It is not renounced by an act of will and not broken by weakness — it simply melts (līna) at the sight. That is the anubhāva the illustration is built to display.

brahma-svarūpa-sthitau avajñāṁ prakaṭayati ||
brahma-svarūpa-sthitaufor standing in his own true form as brahman Viśvanātha supplies brahma- to the verse's bare svarūpa-sthitau, naming exactly which 'standing in one's own form' is meant; locative of what the disdain is aimed atब्रह्म-स्वरूप में स्थित रहने के प्रति — श्लोक में केवल 'स्वरूप-स्थितौ' था, विश्वनाथ 'ब्रह्म' जोड़कर बता देते हैं कि किस स्वरूप-स्थिति की बात है; सप्तमी बताती है कि अवज्ञा किस पर है

Viśvanātha names the target. The svarūpa-sthiti the yogī now looks down on is brahma-svarūpa-sthiti: resting in one's own form as brahman. That was the goal. With the collyrium-dark Supreme standing in front of his eyes, he openly shows that he thinks little of it.
