vṛtti-śūnyasya manasaḥ — of the mind emptied of its thought-movements; brahmākāratayā sthitiḥ — the staying by way of taking the form of brahman; yā asamprajñāta-nāmā — which bears the name asamprajñāta; asau samādhiḥ abhidhīyate — that is called samādhi.
A verse is quoted to fix the term. The mind is emptied of every movement of thought. It then simply stays, holding the form of brahman alone. That condition goes by the name asamprajñāta. And that is what is called samādhi.
Why cited: cited to define the asamprajñāta-samādhi named in the verse, so the reader knows exactly what state the yogī was in when Bhagavān was obtained.
asamprajñāta is a term from Pātañjala Yoga. At home there it names the higher absorption in which nothing is known as an object at all — samprajñāta is absorption still holding an object, asamprajñāta is with that gone and the vṛttis stopped. It is kept in that technical sense here; the point of the verse is that even in that objectless state Bhagavān is obtained.
