eṣāṁ nirabhimānānāṁ śarīrādiṣu yoginām |
sāttvikās tu jvalanty eva na tu dīptā bhavanty amī ||
The verse — decoded
L1definition
eṣāṁ nirabhimānānāṁ śarīrādiṣu yoginām |
eṣāmof these — the śānta devotees just described genitive that does not finish its work in this line; it waits for sāttvikāḥ in the next one — "the sāttvikas of these men".
nirabhimānānāmwho have no sense of "I" and "mine" leftजिनमें अभिमान बचा ही नहीं, अर्थात् जो 'यह मैं हूँ' ऐसा नहीं मानते
śarīrādiṣuabout the body and what goes with it locative naming what the abhimāna would have been directed at; ādi covers the senses, mind and the rest of the bodily outfit.
yogināmof the yogīs — that is who is being spoken aboutउन योगियों का, जो शान्त रति में स्थित हैं
eṣām yoginām — of these yogīs; śarīra-ādiṣu nirabhimānānām — who keep no sense of "I" and "mine" about the body and the rest
He is speaking of the yogīs. They no longer take the body, or anything attached to it, as "I" or "mine". That is the point to hold on to, because the next line is about what their bodies do.
The line sets up a difficulty on purpose. Sāttvika-bhāvas are bodily events. If a man has dropped all identification with the body, one would expect nothing bodily to show at all.
L2conclusion
sāttvikās tu jvalanty eva na tu dīptā bhavanty amī ||
sāttvikāḥthe sāttvika signs — the bodily responses like standing hair and tearsसात्त्विक भाव — स्तम्भ, स्वेद, रोमाञ्च आदि देह में प्रकट होनेवाले विकार
tubut — turning to what does happen in themपरन्तु — पहली पंक्ति की आशंका के विरुद्ध बात मुड़ती है
jvalantido burn — they reach the "burning" pitch, jvalitaज्वलित होते हैं, अर्थात् दूसरी श्रेणी तक तपते हैं
evaand that far only — no higher eva here restricts rather than emphasises: it fences the burning in, and the second half spells out the fence.
na tubut they do notपरन्तु नहीं — बाँधी हुई सीमा को स्पष्ट शब्दों में बन्द कर देता है
dīptāḥblazing — the next pitch up from burningदीप्त, अर्थात् धधकते हुए — इस ऊपरवाली श्रेणी तक नहीं पहुँचते
bhavantibecomeहोते हैं
amīthese ones here — the sāttvikas under discussionये (सात्त्विक) — पहली पंक्ति की षष्ठी अब यहीं आकर पूरी होती है
amī sāttvikāḥ tu — but these sāttvika signs of theirs; jvalanti eva — do burn, and only burn; dīptāḥ tu na bhavanti — they do not go on to blaze
Their sāttvika signs do appear. They burn. But they stop there. They never rise to blazing. So śānta has the bodily responses, only at a low flame.
Rūpa graded the sāttvikas by heat earlier in the work: dhūmāyita (smoking), jvalita (burning), dīpta (blazing), and higher still. Śānta is allowed the second grade and no more.

eṣāṁ iti |
eṣāṁ itithe verse that begins "eṣām" — pratīka: the commentary names the verse by quoting its first word and adding iti. The sentence runs straight on into what follows.'
eṣāṁ iti — as for the verse beginning "eṣām"
They pick up the verse by its first word, eṣām, and then say what it means.

tāvad api śrī-bhagavat-sambandha-prabhāvād eva bhavatīti bhāvaḥ ||
tāvad apieven that much — even the mere burning the verse allows them api concedes the smallness of it: not much happens, but something does, and even that needs explaining.
śrī-bhagavat-sambandha-prabhāvātbecause of the power of their connection with Śrī Bhagavān ablative of cause; the compound reads as "the power of the sambandha with Bhagavān", so the force belongs to the relationship, not to the yogī's practice.
evaand from that alone — nothing else produces itउसी से, अन्य किसी कारण से नहीं
bhavatiit happensहोता है
iti bhāvaḥthat is the sense of the verseयही यहाँ का अभिप्राय है
tāvad api — even that much; śrī-bhagavat-sambandha-prabhāvāt eva — only by the power of the connection with Śrī Bhagavān; bhavati — comes about; iti bhāvaḥ — that is the sense
Now the question the verse raises. These men hold nothing about the body as "mine". So why does the body respond at all? The answer: even that much comes from one thing only — their connection with Śrī Bhagavān. It is the power of that link, not anything of their own, that makes the sāttvikas burn.
