samasta-guṇa-varjite karaṇataḥ pratīcīnatāṁ
samasta-guṇa-varjitein that reality which is free of every guṇa — it has none of the three modes in it loc. sg., agreeing with vastuni in the next line; the whole line hangs on that locativeजो समस्त गुणों से रहित है — ऐसी वस्तु में (सप्तमी; अगली पंक्ति के 'वस्तुनि' का विशेषण)
karaṇataḥaway from the senses, out of their reach -tas here does the work of an ablative: karaṇa = the instruments, i.e. the sense organsकरणों से अर्थात् इन्द्रियों से (यहाँ '-तस्' पञ्चमी का काम कर रहा है)
pratīcīnatāmthe state of facing the other way — of being turned away and so unreachable acc., the goal of gate, 'gone to' (opening word of L2)पराङ्मुखता को, विमुखपन को (द्वितीया; अगली पंक्ति के 'गते' का कर्म — 'को प्राप्त')
samasta-guṇa-varjite — in that reality free of every guṇa; karaṇataḥ — away from the senses; pratīcīnatām — the state of being turned away [gate — gone to, from the next line].
There is a reality with none of the three guṇas in it. It has turned its back on the senses, so they cannot touch it. Everything in this line is describing that one thing, which the verse will name in the next line.
Why cited: adduced to show what bhakti looks like in śānta-rasa: the brahman-joy is real, but it lasts only until Mukunda is seen face to face.
This is an udāharaṇa — an illustrative verse in a devotee's voice — for bhakti in śānta-bhakti-rasa, set up by the lead-in tatra ca bhaktiḥ, 'and there, bhakti [runs like this].' Read the whole verse as one sentence: the joy of brahman shone only until the sight of Kṛṣṇa came.

gatewhich has gone to that state — it completes 'turned away' from the line before loc. sg. past participle, agreeing with vastuniप्राप्त हो जाने पर (सप्तमी भूतकृदन्त, 'वस्तुनि' का विशेषण — 'ऐसी वस्तु में, जो …
kim api vastuniin a certain something, a reality you cannot quite name kim api marks it as indefinable, not as unknownकिसी अनिर्वचनीय वस्तु में — 'किम् अपि' यह नहीं कहता कि वह अज्ञात है, कहता है कि वह वचन से बाहर है
svayamon its own, with nothing else lighting itस्वयं ही, अपने आप — किसी दूसरे के सहारे नहीं
adīpishone out, was lit up aorist passive of dīp; sukham is what shoneप्रकाशित हुआ, चमक उठा ('दीप्' का कर्मवाच्य लुङ्; जो चमका वह 'सुखम्' है)
tāvatonly that long — it waits for the na yāvat, 'until,' in the next line the first half of the tāvat … na yāvat pair; the whole verse turns on itतभी तक — यह 'तावत् …
sukhama happiness — this is the thing that shone nom., subject of the passive adīpiसुख (प्रथमा; कर्मवाच्य 'अदीपि' का कर्ता)
kim api vastuni — in a certain unnameable reality; [samasta-guṇa-varjite — free of every guṇa; karaṇataḥ pratīcīnatām] gate — which has gone beyond the senses' reach; sukham — a happiness; svayam — by itself; tāvat adīpi — shone just that long.
In that unnameable reality a happiness lit up all by itself. Nobody kindled it. But mark the word tāvat — 'only that long.' The verse is about to say how long.
Why cited: names the brahman-joy of the śānta path — self-shining, needing no object — so that the next two lines can put a limit on it.

iyamthis one, right here — pointing at the sight he is having now agrees with sākṣāt-kṛtiḥ in L4यह — अगली पंक्ति की 'साक्षात्-कृतिः' के साथ अन्वय

na yāvat — until, up to when it had not yet happened; iyam adbhutā — this astonishing one; nava-tamāla-nīla-dyuteḥ [tava — of you] — whose glow is fresh-tamāla blue.
Until this astonishing thing happened. And now he turns and speaks to a person: you, whose colour is the dark blue of a young tamāla tree.
Why cited: supplies the cut-off point — the self-shining joy runs only as far as the moment of seeing Kṛṣṇa.

O Mukunda, that happiness shone by itself only until this happened: seeing you face to face, astonishing, solid with joy and consciousness. Two joys are being compared. One lights up on its own in a reality with no qualities. The other is a person, dark blue as a fresh tamāla, standing in front of you. The first lasts only until the second arrives.
Why cited: the point of the whole quotation: darśana of Kṛṣṇa, dense with joy and consciousness, ends the reign of the featureless brahman-joy.

samasta-guṇa-varjite'free of every guṇa' — the verse's word he is picking up pratīka: the word quoted from the mūla before being glossed'समस्त-गुण-वर्जिते' — यह प्रतीक है, अर्थात् मूल से उठाया हुआ वह पद जिसकी अब व्याख्या होगी
guṇa-kṛta-mālinya-rahitemeans: free of the dirt that the guṇas makeजिसमें गुणों से उत्पन्न मलिनता नहीं रह गई, ऐसे में
śuddhaḥ iti yāvatin one word, clean — that is all the compound is saying iti yāvat = 'that is the whole extent of it', his marker for a short paraphraseअर्थात् बस 'शुद्ध' — 'इति यावत्' उनका वह चिह्न है जो कहता है 'इतनी ही बात है', छोटा पर्यायवचन देते समय
tathāand in the same way, for the next phraseऔर वैसे ही, इसी प्रकार
karaṇataḥ'from the senses' — the second word he picks up pratīka'करणतः' — प्रतीक
indriyebhyaḥmeans: away from the sense organs abl. pl., spelling out what the -tas of karaṇataḥ was doingइन्द्रियों से (पञ्चमी बहुवचन; यह खोलकर बताता है कि 'करणतः' का '-तस्' क्या काम कर रहा था)
pratīcīnatāṁ gate'gone to being turned away' — the third phrase he picks up pratīka'प्रतीचीनतां गते' — प्रतीक
indriyaiḥ saha saṅga-rahitemeans: having no contact at all with the sensesजिसका इन्द्रियों के साथ संग नहीं रह गया, ऐसे में
iti arthaḥthat is the sense of itऐसा अर्थ है
samasta-guṇa-varjite — 'free of every guṇa'; guṇa-kṛta-mālinya-rahite — free of the dirt the guṇas make; śuddhaḥ iti yāvat — clean, in short; tathā — likewise; karaṇataḥ — 'from the senses'; indriyebhyaḥ — from the sense organs; pratīcīnatāṁ gate — 'gone to being turned away'; indriyaiḥ saha saṅga-rahite — free of contact with the senses; iti arthaḥ — that is the sense.
Viśvanātha takes the verse's two long phrases one at a time. 'Free of every guṇa' he reads as free of the dirt the guṇas make — in a word, clean. And 'gone away from the senses' he reads as having no contact with the senses at all.
Notice the direction he takes 'free of guṇa': not 'has no qualities' in the metaphysical sense but 'has no stain from the guṇas' — clean. His next sentence shows why: he is describing the antaḥkaraṇa, the mind, which can be dirtied and cleaned.

brahma-ākhyam sukhammeans: the happiness that goes by the name brahmanब्रह्म नाम वाला सुख

svayam asphuratmeans: it flashed out on its own asphurat, a plain aorist of sphur, replaces the rare passive adīpiअपने आप स्फुरित होता रहा — 'अस्फुरत्' अर्थात् 'स्फुर्' का सीधा-सादा लुङ्, जो दुर्लभ कर्मवाच्य 'अदीपि' की जगह रख दिया गया है
na yāvat'until' — the limit-word pratīka'न यावत्' — प्रतीक
tava sākṣāt-kṛtiḥ babhūvauntil the face-to-face seeing of you came aboutआपका साक्षात्कार हुआ
iti arthaḥthat is the sense of itऐसा अर्थ है
evaṁ-bhūte antaḥkaraṇa-rūpe vastuni — in that 'thing', which is the inner faculty and is as just described; kim api brahma-ākhyaṁ sukham — a certain happiness called brahman; tāvat svayam adīpi, svayam asphurat — shone out by itself just that long; na yāvat tava sākṣāt-kṛtiḥ babhūva — until the seeing of you face to face came about; iti arthaḥ — that is the sense.
Here is Viśvanātha's key move. The 'certain something' of the verse is not brahman — it is the mind, the antaḥkaraṇa, once it is clean and pulled back from the senses. What shone there, on its own, was the happiness called brahman. And it shone only until the direct sight of you came about.
So he splits what the verse packs together: the vastu is the container (the purified mind), the sukham is the content (brahman-joy). Read that way, the guṇa-free and sense-free phrases describe a state of mind, not a description of the Absolute — which is what lets the joy have a stopping point.
